In any discussion about whether or not an item is qualifies to be part of a group (or to be defined by a certain adjective, or what have you), it's important to establish a set of criteria for admittance to that group (or a clear definition of the adjective, etc.). By a similar token, if we were discussing Pluto's status as a dwarf planet, it would be important to look at the IAU's criteria for planets and determine if Pluto meets them.
Now, for the purpose of the game, no, I don't much care what they call it. It could be the lollipop guild for all I care. Similarly, to many people Pluto will always be a planet. It's only in discussions about whether or not something really is what people claim it is that the definitions are important.
