I took a long and circuitous route to White Mage as my main, though perhaps it was always inevitable since it was my main in FFXI. I did not like the 1.0 conjurer very much, but I loved 1.0 thaumaturge, with its conal AOE and interesting astral/umbral spells. It's the only class I got to 50 before 2.0 (and while I did unlock black mage, I was only doing solo content so I rarely equipped the job crystal).

In 2.0 I started off as an Arcanist since, being the new job, it was the only one that was level 1. I ended up really enjoying scholar, because I do love to heal, and that was my main through ARR's plot. I did level everything, though, so when I was asked to join my FC's raid group to try to beat T5, I went as white mage instead since we already had a scholar. While I quit the raid scene pretty quickly (a few weeks into T6), I stuck with white mage. To be totally honest, a large part of that was due to not wanting to micromanage my fairy at all, ever, though now I love the play style of today's white mage, and Assize is probably my favorite ability in the game (and has been since it was a lot more mediocre in Heavensward).

Aside: The story of how I became a white mage in FFXI is a lot less complicated. I liked being able to get party invites, and I was too cheap to pay teleport fees.

When I started FFXIV I mained dragoon for about a year and a half since the beginning because Dragoon was one of my favorite classes in the FF series (and it was my main in the short time I played FFXI).

I switched over to black mage about half way through ARR (around 2.2/2.3) and enjoyed it enough to make it my main throughout the remainder of ARR and throughout HW.

Then with stormblood I switched to Red Mage because it was also one of my favorite FF classes and I liked it's play style from all of the pre-release stuff, plus I like spellblade classes in any game.

I plan on making Paladin my main Tank because I'm a fan of the Sword+Board style classes and it feels less boring to play, though I also found Warrior and Dark Knight to have their own versions of fun.

I also enjoy playing Scholar and probably make that my main healer because I find using the shields and fairy make for good 'security blankets' and managing to DPS with it feels easier to accomplish compared to White Mage and Astrologian, plus Excog quickly became one of my favorite SB abilities.

When I saw the lalafell healer in "Answers" I knew I had to play a white mage. Healing is fun and I love supporting my tank and the rest of the party whenever we face a challenge.

In most RPGs I like the ranged class. Anything with a bow and arrow or gun or ranged weapon I love. No idea where that came from, but that's what I'm all about, so I obviously started with ARC (then on to BRD) Then while playing 2.0 I got tired of waiting 30 minutes for DPS dungeon queues and switched to CNJ/WHM and honestly, never looked back. I like healing, I like that I'm in demand, and I like that there is actually class behind it. Give me a healer wit a bow and I could probably literally orgasm with delight.

    ....what do you mean 'inappropriate?'

SCH is my main, everything about it just fits. I usually hate pet classes but the healing fairies feel more like an extension of my own kit rather than some little annoying minion i have to micromanage.

Started PLD cause I'm usually running around in most mideval RPG's like that (with self heals cause my NPC allies usually eather suck & die or cant heal me for crap) however once HW gave us Guns threw MCH my answer was easy "Main MCH" as the idea of a gun in a mideval setting (fantasy or not) makes me grin every time... probably explains why I love always having a sword-like melee weapon (ether on hand or equiped) in shooters

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

I wanted to tank and looking into the tanks I saw they each get their own mount. And I noticed, "Ooooo, the Paladin has a lion. My username has the word 'lion'!" And the rest is history.
