Would you still feel that this was fair if the investment necessary was a VERY large time investment?

What would be a fair time investment? See I think people say that cause they hate the store.. but i rather have the store cause when I see time investment I see things like 500 hours plus for something and that's not really better either. and I'm retired and I'm saying that.

The problem I'm trying to point out though is that the idea of "fair" here is very weird if you step back and consider what investing time can get you. Basically most any job you get in the real world lets you exchange time for money. Most people have a going rate for their time and I think it's really odd that people can know this, have a known quantity they'll accept in exchange for their time yet balk at paying a set amount of money for something but ALSO be OK with spending multiple times over that quantity in time to earn the same thing . You seem to understand this basic exchange of money to save time but a lot of the people on here don't.

Your time is the only currency you actually have to spend and you're the only one who can demand value for that time.

all the people who complain about the cost and how they would rather be able to earn it in game even if it takes months. Get your butts out there and make some money. The opportunity to get those items IS there, you just have to spend a little more effort in REAL life.

This is one of the most "BOOTSTRAPS" things I've ever seen on the forums with regards to digitally purchased items. You might want to calm down.

There are plenty of adults that have a busy life schedule that can still find time to play and raid in this game, even with children. We don't need to jump to extremes just because one person has done so at the end of their debate. Drak is my favorite casual raider to watch that plays XIV and he has a wife and young daughter, but still finds time within his busy schedule to do raiding and have a good time with his buddies for it. Money has nothing to do with it and time management skills is different for everyone.

Hey, look. More hyperbole and doomsaying. Because, Heaven forbid, we try to have a civilized conversation/debate about this without either of those. Just gonna copy this from a previous post.

Unless you have absolute and definitive proof that SE's cash shop is going to go the actual route of pay-to-win in order to progress your character with no other reasonable alternative (keep in mind that EA had no reasonable alternative: it was either lootboxes or spend thousands of hours attempting to catch up, a near impossible feat), all you are doing is doomsaying with your post. One reason people can't take posts like yours seriously is because of the doomsaying and the "slippery slope" logic.

SE doesn't seem like a moronic company; it would only take them five minutes of research to see the backlash they would receive for ever implementing actual pay-to-win features like EA-esque lootboxes.

You could, but then I could argue the opposite that you're a lazy young person with no drive. I meant it as a perspective changer. Your mileage may vary.

Way to use a hyper-specific example that anyone in their right mind would make an exception for. Also If you're on a fixed income and have budgeted for a video game but don't have enough to squirrel away a couple dollars a month til you have enough for the item, you probably can't really afford that video game either. You are one misfortune away from disaster. BTW people with cancer and developmental disabilities are still capable of many things, including finding other means of income than hard labor.

It doesn't, if they changed the system so that people could earn them through gameplay I honestly would not have a problem. None. Go for it. Bank 1000 hours toward whatever you like. I'm saying the system as it is now isn't as ridiculously restrictive as people think. You have options. If you're implying I'm a blind defender of SE or the practice you'd be incorrect. They make mistakes, I'm not a fan of what they've done with the app or with their last content release. Those are other threads though.
