Your stated definition is true of games that have a hard-wall of progression that can only be circumvented by paying real money. Since there is no hard-wall to progression in FFXIV, the definition of P2W is EXTREMELY subjective and nearly impossible to apply to this game. It has nothing to do with "because it's SE".
