Also this already exist in the game, jobs are essentially our builds.
Even more, this is one point we can easily prefer FFXIV over WoW. (FF = 1 char with 15 spec if we watch with a "WoW point of vue" )

For LeoLupinos idea, i like it, really. BUT... you have to build the game around this system. And even more, a "final fantasy" is job centric. each job getting his tools and his works. They can vary for a same job from a FF to another, but this will stay this global idea.

A: [...]these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

they can both be true in different context. 24 man raids many people run for glamours or to gear a specific alt classes. that number increasing doesn't necessarily mean the overall number of tanks that would do other things like Expert/Leveling/Trial roulette would also increase.

The reason for the choice is that data showed players who played a tank or healer as their main class pre-Heavensward kept those jobs and new players didn’t flock to the roles.
I also found this interview, which adressed the situation in a slighty different way :
Looking at it from a role balance perspective, our data shows that the percentage of players who prefer tanks is about 22%, while healers are at 21%. Of course, ideally it would be nice if it was closer to 25% for each of those roles, but it’s still very close to that, so we feel that there is no point in trying to force people into doing something they don’t enjoy.

What if, as a DPS-only player, you only have about 1 hour per day to play? With the current queue times, that's roughly 2 Sigmascape runs (or Trial roulette), 1 Roulette (other than trial), or 0 Rabanastre runs (Yes, that's a zero, for being over an hour total). All of that, combined with perhaps not even being able to play every day, means that someone with that kind of time constraints may have to choose between Sigmascape and capping tomes.

They may not be able to do this without sacrificing an entire patch cycle (or perhaps piggybacking it on the next expansion) - see below.

More role options (or more tank/healer jobs), will not fix queue times. About the only way they can be reduced is by adding a 3rd dps slot to light parties. Unfortunately, that may be a larger change than just adding the slot, as it throws the balance of current dungeons off, and may even completely break certain dungeon mechanics. For those reasons, adding that 3rd DPS slot should be considered a major change. That said, having it would alleviate DPS queues greatly, and it should be looked into as time and resources permit.

Dancer is a physical hybrid melee/range class, not a true ranged class. I love it.

Tank/Healer shortage is an universal problem for all mmorpg.
It is fundamentally people do not like to play Tank and Healer.
Even you increased dps slot to 3, it wont help much.
The best illustration is FF11 where party is consiist of 6 and there are 3 slots for DPS.

I’m sad to hear that another player has quit.

Goodbye Bubblegum01. I’ve never met you before so I can’t really say ”It’s been a pleasure adventuring with you.“

You should look at this one.

Yoshida: The delay for tanks is longer in Void Ark because the addition of dark knight has had the effect of more players adventuring as tanks. Also, many players queue as tank to get a shorter waiting time, but since only three tanks are needed for Void Ark, it actually results in a longer wait.

If you have that little time to play and are bored of simply capping tomestones (Can't blame anyone on that one ) then, yes, it's a bit harsh.

At 3.1, DRK, AST and MCH were still "fresh". Yoshida stated that lots of players jumped on the new jobs, but once the novelty was passed, most people were back to their usual role.

In my head, the mantra ‘why bother, you will have to learn a new fight all over again in 3 months’ time’
And then a few days after last year Christmas, I tried to log back in and couldn’t because my sub had run out. I wanted to resub, I really did, but, why bother?! Nothing last for long in this game. It is a hamster wheel that I am refusing to run anymore.
Oh so very much this. It's a depressive sort of state. It's natural that MMOs will venture into this territory from time to time, but they typically change their formula up once every couple of years, maybe coinciding with an expansion launch. Not so with FFXIV, where expansions are essentially large paid updates, and the content of regular updates can be predicted over a year out.

Many hated Eureka, many liked it and like most players will resub once new content comes in and will become another useless circle. Feed back takes time to implement so rage quitting is always fun to read. I'm even more surprise that people can't just take a break and say, look forward to coming back once things have gotten better.. kudos on at least being descriptive.
The game should always be blamed if there's a lack of motivation to play it. In fact, the sole goal of an entertainment product is to make itself appealing, to make itself a desired escape, regardless of various other aspects of one's life. FFXIV has been failing spectacularly in this regard for quite some time now, because the development team appears to be allergic to change. They're like the mid-career novels dumped out at a prodigious rate by Stephen King; once you've read one, you've read them all, mod a few superficial changes.

Good post aside, just wanted to correct this. The requirement for the free log-in campaigns is actually being inactive for 1 month, not 3. I've used almost every free log-in campaign (I often planned when to sub and when not to around them because it was cheap way to extend my housing timer). I'm pretty sure they've all been 1 month.
