After Windows 95 if was two button mice versus one button... which was also irrelevent...

I have nothing against holding down two buttons for movement... but I've never used it... I'm just saying your history seems a little off...

BTW if your mouse has 24 buttons WHY do you even need to hold the two buttons down for forward movement?
What the heck are you talking about?

I bought my first PC in 1991, iirc. I've NEVER EVER even seen a one-button mouse for PC, only for Mac.

Mac/Apple mice in the 80 had one button, but that was one more than PC mice? Get your facts straight, PC mice existed all through the 80s, and they weren't withouth buttons...

    OT:

I prefer mice with two side buttons. In MMOs I usually program these for autorun and jump (if the game has jumping). I've never had problems configuring my mice in other games, so for me, this is pretty much a *must have* in FFXIV too, since I'm so used to it. At least, having to use the keyboard to move, is an absolute no-no in the long run, at least for me.

Of course there were mice for PCs during the 80s. The problem was that the DOS shell made no use of the mouse. The few DOS Runtimes like edit.com and doshelp.com used the mouse but for the most part the left other buttons but the primary button unused. So thru out the 80s the mice was simply seen as an "optional" accessory... It wasn't until the early 90s with the release of windows 3.x that mice on the PC became a norm. And they always (or almost always) shipped with two button mice. Yet the Windows 3 shell (Program manager or progmon.exe as I recall) didn't take advantage of the second button.

The mouse revolution on PCs really did not begin until the release of Windows 95. I mean Doom supported the mouse... the first button fired your weapon and button 2 enabled sprint. Moving the mouse along the y axis would cause the player to move forward and back. Hence it wasn't terribly popular.

Well you could try using an Xbox 360 controller and see how that works for you. Indeed it's easier on the wrists which is why many people prefer them.
