chat window that opens

hello, just wondering if it's possible for 2.0 to add a better chat box. one like in ffxi. it simply with a hit on the game controller opened up the max size chat box and then with same button just closed it back to either your configured number of max 6 or 8lines i think it was.

much better then what we have now, something in the lines of this for it would be great. i hate using my mouse to scroll up when i'm using a game controller. also hate very much having to keep it at a huge large size. 4-8lines at the bottom is perfect if u can just open it up whenever with ease. these wow'ish/warhammer like chat boxes are kinda meh. ffxi one was always really well done. and i liked how u could change colors in it though we kinda have that in this now just not as good. makes seeing what u'r looking for really easy too. ty.

I prefer the current chat log to the FF11 one but I do agree that a button to max the size would be great. Should have posted this in the UI section though.

I hate just about everything concerning the way the current chat/log system is set up. Just to minimize screen clutter, I have shrunk both of my logs into very small windows with chat displays scrolling the smallest font by so quickly that I am restricted to filtering all but the necessities. I did this to open the screen up a bit to increase immersion factor, but all I really got was a dashboard view of race car.

Don't get me started on how cumbersome finding old entries in the log can be. If I try to click the arrows, new entries consistently and unrelentingly return me to the latest entry. If I try scrolling up with the slider, I am often afflicted with oversteer and understeer.

Again SE, the log worked like a charm in FFXI. Why do we need this shit?

FFXIV's current chat logs are better than FFXI's. The only problem is the lack of customization which will hopefully be implemented come 2.0.

I liked the dynamic window size FFXI had. I do miss it in FFXIV.

Currently I play on a 720p 32" LCD tv @ 1366x768 (which i suspect the ps3 will play native @ 1280x720) I find the chat windows take up too much real estate. It would be nice to have windows that act dynamically to the activity of the current chat. instead of just the fade in fade out that we currently have.

Weeble also brought up a good point. It would be a much welcomed feature if those of us that use gamepads to be able to interact with the chat windows. To open/enlarge the active window and scroll through that pages of previous text.

I hope this is a feature they implement in ver 1.x and is a MUST need for ver 2.0

FFXIV's current chat logs are better than FFXI's. The only problem is the lack of customization which will hopefully be implemented come 2.0.

Agreed that it's more streamlined, but FF11's had far superior readability, yet lacked in-game font customization & sizing.
FF14 should eventually have this.

My ONLY, and biggest, concern is that we won't have textured backgrounds
(one of the things that actually made me not dread reading the chatlog, unlike countless MMOs i've played). Right now we have the ugly black to transparent background with text.

I really hope they give us templates for textures to use in 2.0 to help with readability & customization.


EDIT: Can't deny opening the entire chatlog with a few clicks/presses. I really miss that feature sometimes.

I actuallly quite like the logs. the idea to have an option for 2 log windows is genious.

i can keep all my party chat, ls chat, tells etc completely seperate from all the battle spam and general crap. i personally think it's brilliant.

i just wish i could could have more than 2 tabs. so i can have maybe 3 or 4 sets of filters. if i'm shooting stuff with my arc it really isnt important how much damage the tank gets hit for. as i an arc i cant do bugger all to help. as a healer i dont really need to know how much damage people people are doing i just need to keep em standing. and other examples for other classes could quite easily run through 3 or 4 combat filter sets i think.

i do however agree that it would be nice to scroll using gamepad. maybe press select twice to go from statuses to chat logs or something such. think thats kinda how it worked in xi i never really used a gamepad much on that one though

I really liked the chat log in XI, and how it eventually minimized itself if nothing was happening. If that could somehow be added into the chat log in XIV, I'd be a happy camper.

And more tabs too, please!

Maximize feature would be handy.

I have 1 tab for linkshell and one for party, plus the general and battle one, so you can customise it similar to how FF11 has it. (this requires two boxes which is a bit much for low res players I guess)

Having all tabs in one box in 2.0 will be better.
