Full support for keyboard and mouse users - omg

Be still my heart, does this mean I will be able to move my character forward by holding down both mouse buttons like almost every game on the planet made since 1993.

Let us hope so, because I have not had to use WASD since the late 80's and really don't want to go back to that era.

I have 24 programmable buttons on my mouse and it would be nice to use just one of them.

Currently I can do everything in a raid in EQ with one hand on the mouse and a scotch and water in the other, and that is in a game that is over a decade old!

This annoys me too. I have just come back with the latest patch and I keep hitting my two mouse keys to go forward and it doesn't work. :/

Another movement issue; If I am running why do D and A strafe? It should be a left and right turn, Q and E are always the strafe keys in every other game. So you need two hands to run in this game with a keyboard and mouse, which is not logical.

If I put it on auto run, I can turn left and right normally. Just make the default like the auto run, it is more intuitive.

LOL? In other games your facing is controlled by the mouse, so there is no need for turn keys... which is why they don't have them. The traditional WASD setup does not include turn keys, A and D are strafe left and right respectively.

True for shooters, wrong for MMOs. They actually tend have keybinds exactly like Crux said. For about one minute, which is the time it takes to rebind them to shooter style

the above should not be taken seriously under any circumstances.

Two button mice largely went unused until the introduction of Windows 95... the first game that allowed mouselook was Quake... and you did not grow up in the 80s... WASD didn't come about until mouselook.

In the late 80s the only computer that you regularly used a mouse on was either a Mac or Apple IIGS. At the time they only had one mouse button... but that was one more than PCs but that didn't stop the debate over the command line versus GUI...

After Windows 95 if was two button mice versus one button... which was also irrelevent...

I have nothing against holding down two buttons for movement... but I've never used it... I'm just saying your history seems a little off...

BTW if your mouse has 24 buttons WHY do you even need to hold the two buttons down for forward movement?

There is nothing wrong with the way the keyboard is used now. It allows you NOT to have to use a mouse, which some people, including me, like.
I wouldn't mind adding some options for mouse users, but wouldn't like this to be changed at all since it is working.

What the heck are you talking about?

I bought my first PC in 1991, iirc. I've NEVER EVER even seen a one-button mouse for PC, only for Mac.

Mac/Apple mice in the 80 had one button, but that was one more than PC mice? Get your facts straight, PC mice existed all through the 80s, and they weren't withouth buttons...

    OT:

I prefer mice with two side buttons. In MMOs I usually program these for autorun and jump (if the game has jumping). I've never had problems configuring my mice in other games, so for me, this is pretty much a *must have* in FFXIV too, since I'm so used to it. At least, having to use the keyboard to move, is an absolute no-no in the long run, at least for me.
