We've been hearing 'limitations' since Ps2 and my feeling is that if they don't know how to do something, then hire people who DO. The biggest problem with SE is their insistence on reinventing the wheel and reluctance to just admit they don't know how to do something or don't know how to manage something. It's insane that we can look at literally any other mmo and see them doing exactly what SE is trying to shoehorn in, and somehow those devs never complain about 'limitations'.

This companion app looked to good at the start. Keeping in contact with friends outside of the game made so much easier, that's exactly what I wanted. Inventory management was unexpected but also welcome.

And then suddenly a premium version? Paying an extra sub just to be able to handle retainer inventory? Eh. Not really all that appealing if I'm honest but I guess it makes sense considering how much trouble inventory seems to be for them.

But then the virtual currency, the micro transactions... just, what? Why? Why would you need to add a whole micro transaction system in a companion app to an existing sub-based game? It's a companion app, not a game in itself! What the. I can't even.

    FFXIV = sub MMORPG
    . WITH cash shop
. WITH monthly sub for storage increase
. WITH application that include premium subscription
    . . WITH microtransaction system

I think they can do better

Until they add more uses for the microtransactions in the app, I'm going to lean on the side of they're trying to limit how much of an impact will immediately have on the market with the expectation that players will properly control themselves and be responsible instead of dumping endless cash on manipulating markets.

Cause relying on the players to regulate themselves has ever worked. Just look at the housing system. They never expected people to buy more than one house, and what did we do? Expecting players not to go overboard is honestly as bad as expecting the sun to rise in the west.

If they want to limit the market use from the app, they would only leave the kuponuts (1/2 a day, even if you stock, with the stock limit...)
OR wouldnt allow to go market with app (all the app we have, but NOT market)

No, they want people to pay for this... simply...

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

A: [...]these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

But as you said: they didn't intend for players to go overboard. It may be a mistake to think people will be reasonable, but the design intent was there.

No, because a hard lock at 1 or 2 per day doesn't leave room for anyone to exhibit responsibility because it doesn't leave player choice. There's a limited use case to sometimes pay for extra while remaining responsible. It's not just black and white.

That IMO has more to do with the progression overall that technology has allowed and MMO trends in general are following.

Back in FFXI you got 1 character then paid an additional dollar for each additional slot which for most people was essentially buying extra storage because you could actually mail stuff to your alt on that game to mule things that weren't flagged EX. Or you went full tilt and paid multiple subs so you could have all said characters in game at the same time.

When the game was designed we didn't have smart phones and it took quite some time for the smart phone to catch on. So we didn't have mobile apps. It was also at a time where an MMO was either subscription or cash shop.

Later on that wall between sub and cash shop started breaking down because enough people liked the idea of being able to buy cosmetic items for their characters without having to wait for a seasonal quest or hunt down some obscure NPC. However the people wanting this did mostly did not want the stat boosts that were associated with these cash shop cosmetics in many if not most of the free to play games at the time.

And yet this game which is 8 years younger, uses the same archaic methods as you describe. I never played XI but reading your post made me see how, in terms of what they've done to XIV since I played in the early PS4 beta is essentially the same.

Which doesn't help the argument of them being so limited when apparently, this design is old enough to vote in every country in the world.

    If you say so.
