Honestly I only have initials on. Just saying "BLM" or "PLD" is much easier than mousing over the person and looking at their name. I don't care if calling someone by their class sounds rude. It's just easier.

Considering how much playing as White Mage and as a healer means to me, I actually enjoy being referred to as Whm, White Mage, or Healer. If we’re having a casual conversation, sure, use my name. In battle? I wear that Whm job like a badge of honor.
Plus, yeah, unless there’s two whm’s, 0 chance of confusion on my part, faster communication on their part.

Easier to type SAM than XXXSephirothXXX.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

What about referring to you as your job is rude? No everyone is here to coddle you or make friends, and that's ok. Sometimes it's just about getting the thing done and moving on.

But also involves having to first target that person, so no.
And like I said, this is nothing to get bent outta shape about. It's just standard shorthand, its not rude or meant to be disparaging. Some players just need to take a breath, relax and stop trying to find a personal slight in everything everyone else does.
I understand your concern, but can you imagine calling our party member with some... amusing names all the time? I know this won't happen, but just for argument's sake imagine your tank is call Fork Uu and your healer is Fork Mi. Would probably be fun raiding with them with voice chat though.
Why would it be blunt, rude, or otherwise disrespectful?I noticed I sorta interesting trend in PF groups lately where when I'm in duty with them, and someone needs to address another member, they just call say "BRD, make your in the right spot, or SCH we need more healing." Why can't they just call them by name? It seems a bit rude...
I mean I get it's easier, but there's a sort of a blunt rudeness and disrespect about it that rubs me the wrong way.
The request or query is relevant only insofar as to the job to whom its aimed. I don't care what player is manning the WHM toolkit at the time; I care about what WHM abilities will be used for the second set of intensive AoEs. When it's a matter of player personality, or something outside the job in question, I'll signal accordingly by using the player name. Otherwise, the job title is simply more relevant. If there are two NINs, I'll ask one or the other, by player name, if he wants to use an alt instead, and then refer to him or her by job whenever my emphasis is on the toolkit.
I feel no disrespect in being referred to as "MNK" or "NIN" or "BRD", when I am said Monk, Ninja, or Bard, and the request or question is about the job toolkit or my plans therefor or use thereof.
Probably just a local culture (for OP) thing maybe? Like in Japan you don't typically call someone by their first name unless you're pretty close and in another place it can be consider rude to call people by their full name all the time outside of official situations. I do hope by now OP understand where we are coming from.

i usually don't look on the names and of course can't say who is wich person when someone says the name.
i look on the icons. i can find a specific job pretty fast in the group list, since it's always sort the same way. when someone tells me "stack with the SCH" i will click on the scholar icon in the group list and a big arrow shows me the way. takes 1 or 2 seconds. when i have to read the names this will of course take longer ^^
it's generally easier to work with the jobs and job icons than with names. i will use names when i talk to a person of course. but when tactics are discussed it's easier to use the jobs instead of the names. even when names are used for tactic discussion i will sort them in jobs anyway. alone to find the people faster on the map, because specific jobs tend to stay at specific places.
