I did it once, this character was originally meant to be an alt to play with a friend but I liked the movement better than the Miqo'te so I made it my main and never looked back, my original is still on another server collecting dust. Now of course that "friend" doesn't agree with paying to play a game, yet will pay for plus go figure.

I won't do it again, won't even make another alt, just too time consuming and not paying for jump pots.

No because you can play all classes on 1 character.

The only reason I played multiple characters in WoW, GW 1, GW 2, RIFT, SW:TOR, Tera, ESO, Wildstar, Devillian, SW:L, Archeage, Revelation, RoI & Bless was to play other classes.

I'm glad we can be everything on 1 character in this game.

I've got my main character, who I'm doing "everything" on (minus side things I'm not interested in doing at all) but then also have two alt characters, for a few reasons...

Firstly, I'd come up with designs I'd liked while playing around in the character creator, and settled on the idea of them being Aurelie's "party members" (because it's an RPG and I can't be here on my own, right? Like any other game where you only see your character on the map and the party shows up in battle) so had them in my mind for a while.

Then I decided I wanted to try out the different early-game storylines, so they were the obvious choices to create as actual characters. Leveled up to the 'merge point' of the storylines and put them aside.

Now, having reached the end of the MSQ-so-far, I'm eager to go through it again! So I've started on that with one of my two alts. There are things that I didn't pick up the first time, little references to then-unfamiliar things that I now recognise, but it's different now that I understand the world better and where the story is going. And no, I don't think just rewatching cutscenes at the inn is anything of a substitute - it's going to the places, talking to minor characters at every opportunity, seeing things unfold. (And yes, there's unfortunately a lot of filler as well, but I'd rather go through it to get the good parts than miss out on so much.)

For these extra characters I'm just focusing on a small number of jobs, for quests I want to replay, or see as particularly 'in character', or haven't got to on my main yet. Currently my second-MSQ character is leveling dragoon (to replay the ARR questline) through story quests and warrior (for character) through daily roulettes, and keeping both easily at or above story level that way. Taking it at a slower pace than my first time through the game, and still also playing with my main character as I work through additional jobs and sidequests.

(Also a degree of "glamour endgame"-driven play - eg. leveling alchemist partly for character backstory/concept but also because I want that character to be able to equip the Lv50 coat! Also tempted to take up a few classes with my male alt purely because I like the male versions of the relic gear...)

My main character is still (and I think permanently will be) my main - I see her as "my character" and she's *the* Warrior of Light in my mind while the others are just side characters that need to be played as a 'fake main character' to progress them through the story. They're all there together as I'm imagining it.

I'm not sure that I'll take my alts all the way through to the end of 4.X MSQ at this point, but I particularly loved Heavensward and want to replay that part of the story again. (Plus the Coerthas arc of ARR, now that I understand how those characters are important for later!) I didn't like Stormblood so much, so may not progress through that until I need a reminder of the plot later on. Perhaps as we get close to the release of the next expansion.

I just started an alt to do this, actually.

I won't lie recent events have pushed me to contemplate such ideas myself.

The feeling of wanting to start over is something that I understand very well actually.
I did it once before, when Stormblood came out, after taking a looong break from the game after my old FC fell apart.
A new character for the new expac; leaving all the baggage behind, seemed like a great idea at the time, and still does. However, after a while I realized that all I did was make a new character and take the baggage with me. Doesn't help that Miqo'te aren't as much to my liking as I hoped they might be.
So now, after another break, I may potentially start over again.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my Characters, but I also think there is no point playing them if I don't feel like I enjoy them anymore.

No. I have done too much on this character to just start over.

Starting over doesn't mean letting go of your other character though. You're free to have multiple characters so you can always go back to the other one.

For me, it's nice to just dive into the story again without feeling like I have to do all the side content along the way. (Have decided my second character is Not A Crafter and my goodness, the amount of free space in my inventory when I'm not hoarding materials!)

Well, liking my character design is a big motivator for me to play, so at the moment I have 4 characters. When I get tired of looking at one I go to another. So that’s quite a bit of starting over. But I don’t want to just Fantasia repeatedly cycling between the four, I want them to be their own characters.

Because of my design/aesthetics issues I kind of like games where each character can only be one class because then I don’t feel like it’s quite so ridiculous to have so many characters lol.

    Nope.

There's been far too much time, effort and money invested in my main character to even entertain the idea of starting fresh. Especially with how time consuming some of the mount achievements in PvP can be.
