Does anyone ever think of starting over?

I have gotten that feeling of wanting to start over a few times. but I honestly I don't think I can ever get the same feeling as when I first started playing. I would occasionally however play an alt if I get bored on my main. I could never abandon them, so much time and effort put into them. not to mention being too attached. I do regret picking Lancer as my first class tho. Wish I could change that.

I started over about 5 times like a fool when getting used to the game.

I may have an alt in the future to try out different races/cutscenes/etc.

MSQ startover? Maybe.

Entire game startover? No thanks, I have plenty of mounts exclusive to events, achievements and a lot of gil.

Maybe if they gave me Legacy status, that might entice me to start over entirely.

Only if they ever revamp the (filler) story from 1 to 50, xp bonus to not repeat so much the dungeons to lvl up, and unlock all jobs at lvl 30 on the city. It's sucks to play MSQ with a job that we don't want, just to be able to unlock RDM/SAM/DRK/MCH/AST.

Thats why I made a second account. Now they both have max crafting and gathering jobs and 4 level 70's each ahha

All I have to do is merely start thinking about all the things I’d be missing (gathering/crafting instantly spring to mind) and that immediately destroys any thought to invest time into an alt.

I think about it. But when I consider all the money on the mogstation and items I bought for my 1 character. Adding another character into the mix, even if its just for story does not make sense.

But I do sometime go back and watch the story in the inn room

Technically have twice, though neither character had a huge amount of work put into them. I'd started playing when the game launched, but never made it far before going on a hiatus several times (like...mid 20s each time, and I'd just start anew when I came back) and happened to miss almost every holiday/event during that time as well. Started in earnest in 2015, and about a month after starting I was low 40s, maybe 4 days /playtime, and my wife started the game and we decided to roll characters together on a different server, so that was the first time.

This character is also essentially a product of starting over, though that was not the initial motivation. I'd learned maybe two months after HW launched that a good number of NPCs would change what they say in response to actions/events in the MSQ - commentary on events, side conversations, various character interactions, stuff like that.

So I created an "alt" to go through the story again to see these things during the 3.0 to 3.1 lull, and I ended up feeling more connected to this character as a result.

So I made the switch.

That being said, the most I'd achieved then was 60 with one job, 50 with one crafting job, and 50 with a gathering job (everything else was either not unlocked or just above/under level 20), so I wasn't leaving much behind. Starting over now (versus just taking an alt through the MSQ again for funsies) would be a much, much bigger deal, and I'm not sure I could.
