People are annoyed that it took so long because they claimed to be working on it from scratch...which is the same thing they said about Edda's outfit. Mysteriously after announcing that it'd be available someday it arrived in a matter of months and on the Mog Station to boot. Male glamour, meanwhile, is definitely a low priority - and that isn't a good thing at all. Numerous threads have been made over the last year or so with people stating they want more effort put into male glamour options, more masculine glamour options and generally just more equal treatment.

Yet time and time again they seem to miss the mark entirely...or feminise everything. Which wouldn't be a bad thing if there was more variety/equality.

I agree with you 100%, but I think they base things solely on which races/genders are highest in numbers. At least, that's how it appears. I play a female Highlander, so the gear doesn't always hit the mark, but largely it does. There's just so many female Miqo'te and Au Ra, and that's what they probably make most of the gear for. It makes sense to appeal to a large swath of the player base, but it doesn't really end well for male characters most of the time.
