It took them a long time, but I doubt they were working on it tirelessly. It's probably like you said, that it was simply a low priority side project. But that said, the whole copy/paste thing is a bit disappointing considering the time it took to happen. I didn't even want this but even I view this as a lazy solution.
They were talking about this being in the making for that long. You have interviews and panel transcripts dating that far back about this.

That seems like an odd expectation, given that it goes completely against my first point (low priority).
As for your comment on gear design, I happen to like some of the new gear they added in SB, just like I liked some of the gear they added in HW.
That's comparing 6 months of continuous development vs. 2 years of an outfit being 'worked on'.
We don't know how much time they've actually spent developing it.
Negative in response to the chosen design of the gear (though I'd be willing to bet the number of players who either are apathetic about it or like the design is more than you think).
But that's not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about you judging the amount of effort you think they put into work based on whether or not you like how it looks.
People are annoyed that it took so long because they claimed to be working on it from scratch...which is the same thing they said about Edda's outfit. Mysteriously after announcing that it'd be available someday it arrived in a matter of months and on the Mog Station to boot. Male glamour, meanwhile, is definitely a low priority - and that isn't a good thing at all. Numerous threads have been made over the last year or so with people stating they want more effort put into male glamour options, more masculine glamour options and generally just more equal treatment.
Yet time and time again they seem to miss the mark entirely...or feminise everything. Which wouldn't be a bad thing if there was more variety/equality.

Not two entire years, no, but we've been waiting two years for it.
We don't, but the fact that we've been waiting 2 years for what is essentially a copy and paste is rather disappointing even when you were expecting less.
Frankly, I'm not gonna argue anymore. I'm made my peace that I'm disappointed that it's essentially a copy-paste job rather than something new and exciting for males, but it reflects on the history of SE and favoring female glamour, which we know is apparent.

I agree with you 100%, but I think they base things solely on which races/genders are highest in numbers. At least, that's how it appears. I play a female Highlander, so the gear doesn't always hit the mark, but largely it does. There's just so many female Miqo'te and Au Ra, and that's what they probably make most of the gear for. It makes sense to appeal to a large swath of the player base, but it doesn't really end well for male characters most of the time.People are annoyed that it took so long because they claimed to be working on it from scratch...which is the same thing they said about Edda's outfit. I don't normally post on the forums but aren't most people upset when SE makes male outfits look different from their female counterparts? I remember a thread dedicated to that and with the spring pants [I do think that was the item anyway] so they might have felt it wasn't really needed to change them since people just wanted that outfit for males?
This argument is problematic when you consider that a lot of people play female charas BECAUSE of the glamour situation. It's a self fulfilling prophecy at this point.
Also, you'd think that with all the bots running around, the leading demographic would be male Midlanders, but somehow SE can tell those apart from actual players but they can't ban them...?
If they had made it yet another pair of Generic Pants™ like they did with the spring bottoms, yes, we'd have been upset. Change in itself isn't that horrible, the new AST set has differences but they're more than acceptable imo. Thing is, it looks like SE can't design things for males, period, because it's either the bland pants we got from the fashion report, or just a copy-paste of the female outfit which don't even look that good on a male physique to begin with.I don't normally post on the forums but aren't most people upset when SE makes male outfits look different from their female counterparts?
