@Bird, I think there's some characters that may be different. I recall a Chinese friend of mine read 祭 not as "festival"? I never got a second opinion, but I've moving forward with that in mind.

@Issac, one of my former colleagues could read and write English well, but speaking and being spoken to, there were strong language barriers. I started to understand how he spoke English, not just accent, but in meaning, and sometimes would translate English to English to and from some of our colleagues for him. When the issue was serious enough, a colleague would translate all issues to his native language.

@DNO and Antipika, I definitely see your point on the language expectation, i.e. buying a product in a country where language X is the primary language and expecting to receive services and support in said primary language. SE does provide services and support in English in this regard. The consumers of the product on the other hand, could vary.

Canceled my personal examples as they relate to the store or service provider not providing services in English in the U.S. providing a culture-neutral service (a recent game or formal attire). But these are not fellow consumers that might be discussing trends, bargains, or trading.

Edit: I wasn't fast enough, the battle spreads!

Yes but people can not think outside of the box. If it was done in ff11 it HAS to be done here.

You are correct but it falls on deaf ears.

and you are correct. But my point is not to change SE minds.. they already agree with me as the are giving us different servers.

My point is that PLAYERS feel its ok to have "JP only" and its ok to take on another language (on my free to none the less) to play a VIDEO game on my free time? thats silly.

    Also (edit

All other MMOS (most) have this feature already. FF11 and FF14 are the only ones that do not!!!

It seems like discrimination but its really not, most of the JP players see us as immature, and you could say thats stereotyping, but they probably didn't want you in there party because you don't speak the same language. I've been in parties in both XI and XIV with JPs, I've also done some end game content with them, many do know some english, but its not good to rely on that. The auto translate works fine but is lacking some things I'd like it to have. You can party with JPs just fine but it does add an extra layer of stress if you can't communicate fast, so I don't blame them for not wanting an added layer of stress is something as trivial as leveling. I speak english and french, and I still find it easier to party with the JPs than the Québécois and the French. I like having mixed servers, I'm not a xenophobic like many of the FF population including the JP who are notorious for being xenophobic. If you don't know what xenophobia is look it up, we play with 2 of the most xenophobic countries out there, France and Japan. Its cultural, and it barely bothers you, you were partying at anti-peak english speaking hours if you could only get a jp party anyway, its also circumstantial, get over it.

for every 9 jps that won't invite you to there party there's 1 jp that going to need a party later on and will hope to get that spot in the english party, so you extend them the invitation, relationships between races of people are fixed overnight, this is an mmo, people play mmos, people are just extensions of their culture. So you will come across cultural difference and maybe barriers while playing a game with multiple cultures, that's life. If politics were up to people who wanted separate servers and couldn't stand jp only, we'd never talk to each other on a international level, we'd never have bilateral or multilateral agreements, or we'd all be one big country of suck with no difference in culture between anybody. Its a game though not politics, way less important, but small scale if you can't stand being excluded from something due to language while playing a video game that relies on communication you should reevaluate your tolerance, its really not a big issue.

    That's not silly at all.
You want to play with English speaking players? Don't learn Japanese.
You want to play with people not speaking English? Learn theirs.

Why are you expecting them to learn English? They seem to be happy to be able to communicate with players of their language only.

I'm not sure what feature you are referring to, if it's the localized servers then...if international servers are that much of a problem for you, why did you start playing this game knowing the servers are not localized in the first place?

I have zero problems partying with Japanese players. When I'm playing in the early AMs, it's usually a Japanese party that I join to grind.

If you choose to change your mind and put forth a more positive attitude, here's a few polite phrases:
    1. よろしくです~ (yoroshiku desu~) Nice to meet you (Literally: Please treat me well)
    2. ありがとう~/どもありがとうございます~ (arigatou~/domo arigatou gozaimasu~) Thank you / Thank you very much (respectful, polite)
    3. ごめんなさい (gomen nasai) Sorry
    4. じゃまた (ja mata) See you later
    5. またよろしくです~ (mata yoroshiku desu~) It was nice meeting you again
    6. 私はアメリカ人です、でも日本語がすこしわかります (watashi wa amerikajin desu, demo nihongo ga sukoshi wakarimasu) I'm American, but I can understand a little Japanese."

No where did it say ff11.

So mab your own post went over your head?

anyway all i was saying is that if a have to learn another language to play the english version of the game its fail.
What are you talking about? When I said that many of us have played XI for many years, it also inferred "What's your point," and you missed that apparently when you asked the same question.

Quoting an unrelated previous post in bold confuses me a bit.

this will be the last time i say this. its hard to talk to some of you.

I am NOT asking for JP to learn english....
I am not asking for English to learn JP (in fact if you read above before posting you would no i am sooo not for that)

All i am saying is actaully 2 fold
    1. If we have to learn JP in the english version of a game its silly (Auto translate should be enough but sometimes for JP Only people it is not)

    2. Make single speaking servers

So they can actually only have to speak one language and not cut off half the server. they will have more JP players and we will have more NA players instead of having both groups scattered among 8 different servers.

Your confused because you quoted one part of the text. you took one part and posted about it. This was replying to your post. so its completely related. Anyway who cares it a moot point anyway because it wrong in my years of playing.

You of course had a different time with JP players i didnt.

English version of the game? It's not. If it was, then we'd had a dedicated US or/and EU server.

The client is multilanguage and actually the default language is Japanese.
And my point was, no one is forcing you to learn Japanese. Just don't play with people not speaking English, what is the problem with that?

Just 1 game that is not dead doesn't mean the rest aren't.
Tried Aion when it was still new? Even Ultima Online when it was still fresh was like this. Only ones up at night are a few PK-ers roaming about.

And you are close-minded because I judge you to be Xenophobic from the posts you made.
