It actually is, though? They don't need to join the train on its way to Pazuzu, but they can easily get Sabo or the one that spawns from Bishops. Especially now that the train probably won't bother with those, they'll also be able to get the exp from the spawn-mobs themselves. And honestly, so long as they manage to hit the NM enough? They'll get more exp than just farming mobs for a similar amount of time, most like. And at the really low levels you can just respawn since you don't have to worry about the exp penalty.

Lets not forget that with the nm train there is at least the chance of interim rewards and a raise if somethong goes wrong. outside of it, you're looking at slow leveling, and the chance of it getting erased if the wrong mob looks your way.

At really low level, it doesn't matter if you die, yes. But I've done a full session where a high level friend carried me away on its mount, and beside the facts that 1) I don't like being carried and 2) It wasn't fun to just sit there doing nothing but occasionnal spell to make sure I stayed out of stray AoE, I earned less XP (And 0 crystal) by chaining three high level fates (Including Pazuzu) than I did the previous day by simply killing harpies and spawned Teles.

And now that I'm level 6, my last party tried to join the train at any cost, and we wiped 4 times. It's a good thing I entered with only 1 Xp on my bar, so that the only thing I lost in the end was time...

Frankly, as long as you can't freely move around the map, so at least level 9, the train will probably get you killed for far more than what you will gain.

Btw, did anyone else catch that the NE section of the map is called the "Uncanny Valley"? Where are the weird, almost human, but not quite (so they look creepy) robots (or sex bots, whatever floats your boat)?

I did some chain grinding as a group at level 4/5 when I was not able to make my way to the fate train yet. The group had people between levels 3-6 and I found that the xp from chains was slower than when I soloed mobs of my own level. Our level difference, party penalty and the mobs being only level 6 were the reasons I can think of for the slow xp. Maybe I'm part of the problem and need to git gud but it did not seem like we could have killed much higher level mobs than that.

We eventually spawned the level 1 fate and got a nice chunk of xp. But I wonder, if spawning the fate is the goal and is where most of the xp comes from then why not just follow the train and take part in multiple fates in a short amount of time? Chain xp is not that great unless you can solo well or somehow manage to find a group of people exactly your level who can kill mobs 5 levels higher, and trying to find such a group at this point wastes a huge amount of time which could be spent running with the train.

Spawning multiple fates around the map at once can also cause people to miss out on fates and needlessly put the fates on cooldown after only a few people got the reward. The whole instance sharing rewards from all fates seems more efficient that splitting into small groups and everyone getting a reward only from 1 or 2 fates within their 2 hour cooldown.

You need to all be the same level or maybe a difference of 1 level in the party to this to be effective. It is near impossible to do this without a level sync feature for a party. And thus, the train IS the best way to go 1-20, hands down.

Anyone saying its not is in denial.

Will you get killed as you travel? yes. Will you get rezzed immediately? yes. Will you get XP on the spawn mobs? not likely. Will you get thousands of XP for the fate? yes, even the higher level ones IF YOUR PARTY HAS HIGH LEVEL PEOPLE IN IT.

I tried to follow the train but people had mounts so couldn't keep up and people didn't res me, so I'm not sure what you think I should do in that situation.

That was a very good Post Marluxia.
