I did some chain grinding as a group at level 4/5 when I was not able to make my way to the fate train yet. The group had people between levels 3-6 and I found that the xp from chains was slower than when I soloed mobs of my own level. Our level difference, party penalty and the mobs being only level 6 were the reasons I can think of for the slow xp. Maybe I'm part of the problem and need to git gud but it did not seem like we could have killed much higher level mobs than that.

We eventually spawned the level 1 fate and got a nice chunk of xp. But I wonder, if spawning the fate is the goal and is where most of the xp comes from then why not just follow the train and take part in multiple fates in a short amount of time? Chain xp is not that great unless you can solo well or somehow manage to find a group of people exactly your level who can kill mobs 5 levels higher, and trying to find such a group at this point wastes a huge amount of time which could be spent running with the train.

Spawning multiple fates around the map at once can also cause people to miss out on fates and needlessly put the fates on cooldown after only a few people got the reward. The whole instance sharing rewards from all fates seems more efficient that splitting into small groups and everyone getting a reward only from 1 or 2 fates within their 2 hour cooldown.
