Re-reading I can see how I should have worded it a bit better.

Back during the beta on the forums whenever I, or others, mentioned the shortfalls of the game and how there was fundamental system issues we got screamed to "Don't play if you don't like it". I'm seeing a lot of the same rhetoric and arguments from then as I am now for Eureka. And the big implication being they were wrong then just as they were now.

No he's implying that blind defenders of a game create a situation like 1.0 by stomping out discussion. The last thing a developer wants is for their players to be told to leave and that they aren't wanted by zealous members of the player base. Remember, this is video games! They're trying to create something fun and improve their product, and the only way to do that is with feedback. That said, ideally feedback is a little more detailed than "I don't like ______" so that developers can better know where to look.
