Please change the requirements to become mentor

I think we are all aware there are way too many awful players going around with mentor status.
What i suggest is they make some changes like upping the amount of commendations to 750.While at the same time removing commendations from Guildhests so people cant farm them without doing any actual work.
That a lone should help towards getting rid of some of the trash walking around with crowns.

If I play enough, I still will get all the requirements at one point. Doesn't mean my douche behaviour will change, you know.
Maybe they should implement a system for like Mentor Rating. Something that says "How do you think the Mentor has helped you?" and give them a choice between 1-10. If the mentor gets bad rating all the time, he could loose his status or somewhat another penality. This should consider the mentors tho, that haven't had a chance to explain somehow and somewhat :v

You can still get 750 commendations without experiencing 80% of the game, which I think is one of the biggest problems with the system
I've got 1400 and I still need to unlock well over 50 instances to actually do the roulette. (I have mentor but I hide the crown.)
I do hope that they make some sort of global chat before they overhaul the mentor system, as novice net is the most/the only social experience most people have in this game.

Comms do not reflect that a person's a good player necessarily. A comm might just be something someone threw out cuz you were the last person to get out of the duty and they wanted to complete their challenge log for the week.

A proper mentor system is one that's backed by GMs, introduced to the playerbase, limited in numbers per world and given a change so that other players can try their hand at it.

Just stop expecting the mentor system to be something it isn't. Mentors are there for people to know that they can ask them a question and (probably) get an answer. That's it.

Except that you do need those things to be an official mentor, otherwise you're just another player.

While you can pretty much do everything a mentor can in terms of helping a player out, you don't get access to the mentor status, which is what most people want, they want everything that comes with being a mentor.

Still don't have a tank leveled, I've been a mentor since the system was put in place.

How about a "Rate-the-mentor" pop-up at the end of a dungeoun, trial, whatever, displayed in the profile for everyone to see how much you actually do care about mentoring newbies or just want that (rather ugly) crown over your head with numbers of ratings and somewhat like an overall 1-5 stars summarythingy, I dunno.

They probably got the status via crafting/gathering—it has different requirements from a PvE mentor.


As for the commendations, I rarely give commendations to people I think were “the best” of a run. My comms go to whoever I think deserve them, be it because they’re funny, they have a cool glamour, a cool name, etc.. Point is, comms are not a sign of a good player: you could have gotten your comms from just being a tank/healer, even if you aren’t a “good” tank or healer, because some people default to always comm’ing the tank/healer.

I mean, I think there should be something to “fix” the mentor system, but I don’t think the answer is in upping the amount of commendations.

I disagree. Because people will be petty and 1-star rate people out of spite. Tank did something you didn’t like, and was a mentor? 1 star. Healer was DPSing and you think healers should only heal (even though no one came close to dying and the run went super smooth)? 1 star. See someone from your server that you don’t like? 1 star.

In that case every change to the mentor system would be a bad idea, remove the crown and replace that symbol with a schoolbook or something.
Or make it the crown gets different color tones, from bronze up to platinum or whatever, if I would be new somewhere and someone actually lives up to his precious crown and explains how we can get through without havin a rough time and I'm not a dork why wouldn't I give that person the rating he/she deserves? That put to only give the new ones to prompt to rate that person to further prevent random low ratings.
Ofcourse there will always be people like you described, but there are decent players out there, I still have hope for humanity
