By the way this is worded, saying "the job", it sounds like they are planning for only one job per class. It may just be a poor choice of words, however. Originally I thought it was going to be a combination of classes to unlock a job (like how Final Fantasy Tactics worked) and the job would have been a standalone job of its own. Then, after seeing that the jobs are more of a specialization of a class that you assume by equipping yourself with a special item (I am assuming that the special item must be equipped to a specific class) I wouldn't be surprised if a class will have multiple jobs - like a skill tree. So if the ratio isn't going to stay as 1:1 my vote is that it will be 1:2+.Regarding dual-wielding, we're discussing whether we want to implement a class that branches out from the gladiator, or implementing a stealthy scout-type class (e.g. thief) that can perform sneak attacks. If we decide to go with the latter, we may set the job as ninja.
They have a lot of directions they can go with the class/job system. We still have things like ninja, samurai, summoner, thief, and beast-master that we pretty much know are on the horizon; but that's not to say that some won't be implemented as classes that require certain jobs to unlock, and others as jobs on-top of classes that require jobs to unlock.

This guy knows what im sayin :PFor the argument that jobs are already 2:1 you don't seem to really be understanding the main premise of the OP.
Yeah the projected requirements for jobs will be a class at 30 and a class at 15 but the 30 class is still the only class that plays as a given job.
The OP is asking if there will ever be a system in place where several classes can all be played as a given job. So let's go with Red Mage as an example. Assuming at bare minimum THM and CNJ will both be required... will it ever be at the point where someone can be on the THM class and the RDM (sort of a more DPS spec'ed RDM with some support abilities/spells) job OR on the CNJ class and also the RDM job? (More of a Support/healing rdm with the ability for some DPS)
Meaning that 2 classes can effectively use the same job. that's what the 2:1 ratio implied.
I agree that it is far too early to have anything set in stone regarding jobs... but a system of this nature appeals to me alot... and I hope that if nothing else this thread can bring the idea to the Dev team's attention if they hadn't been considering anything of this nature so far.
I believe it was mentioned somewhere... I think another interview that classes would possibly get 2 jobs each. So a 1:2 would probably be right. It was also stated that it takes 2 classes to unlock the job one at lvl 30 and one at lvl 15 or so. I don't think they would ever make it a 2:1 ratio even though that would be interesting but then would said job for the 2:1 get to use all the abilities of the class that equips it and also be able to use all crossclass skills of the second class?By the way this is worded, saying "the job", it sounds like they are planning for only one job per class. I also wanted to add more to my list of classes/job because I know some though hey Nadien I don't see SMN or BST on that list... you are right and I am sorry I missed those two jobs ><
So... here you go
Class name CLR (Caller)
CLR lvl 30 MRD lvl 15: BST (Beast Master)
CLR lvl 30 CNJ/THM/ARC lvl 15: SMN (Summoner)
Just a thought....

Just to clarify, Beast Tamer is the "CLASS" and Summoner is the "JOB" that it becomes.I believe it was mentioned somewhere... I think another interview that classes would possibly get 2 jobs each.
