i cant start ffxiv

i cant log into ffxiv. i put my password in & can click on the play directx 11 icon.
once i do that & get to the main screen to start the game, my curser just goes over "start" like there's nothing there.
neither start, data centre, movies, configuration or exit will let me click on it.
when i go into my task bar to try and close the window, a bar will appear ingame asking if i want to "exit the game?"
again, i cant click on the icon saying "ok", as it appears not to be there when my mouse scrolls over it.
the only way i can get out of the game is to reboot my pc.
i have 2 other mmo's on my pc, both of which i dont have a problem with.
any ideas what might be the problem here?
i have looked to update my drivers & theyre already updated.

I have the exactly the same problem, have tried restarting game and computer several times and reinstalling mouse and keyboard, so far nothing seems to work

Can confirm: Since the latest hotfix, I am having the same issue.

When starting the game through the DX11 client, things appear normal at first, but mid-way through the Square Enix Logo before the Start Screen, the cursor switches from the special Final Fantasy cursor to the standard desktop cursor.

From that point onward, mouse and keyboard no longer seem to work inside the game. It is possible to forcefully kill the process with the task manager however.

Switching to Windowed Mode (Screenmode = 0 in the config file) resolves the issue. My standard setting is Screenmode = 1 (should be Full Screen) The issue also appears when putting Screenmode = 2 in the config file - I am not sure what this setting corresponds to however, since I cannot check the configuration tab in it - I wager it's Borderless mode.

Addendum: It also stops working in Windowed mode if you drag the window around. Mouse is a Logitech g400s, but I've tried older Logitech models like the MX518 and it doesn't work either. There have been no updates on the computer other than the hotfix. OS is Windows 7 professional if that helps anything. Switching to DX9 doesn't help either.

I am also having this same issue. Cannot click anything in the game window after launching it. Can't play, can't exit, have to use task manager to exit the game.

Unfortunately for me, I started to have exactly the same problem after today maintenance. On the Start Screen game-in cursor replaces with system one and the game interface doesn't react to it at all (so the only way to exit is by using Task Manager and killing the task).
It appears for me in the full screen mode, but reset to default settings (Windowed mode) didn't help either, the problem repeated, both in DX11 and DX9 modes.

I use Razer Naga Chroma mouse and my OS is Windows 10 Pro.

hi ariell.
ive just tried to log on again now & again, no joy.
it seems very hit & miss when it wont let me log on.
yesterday evening i tried & i managed to get on for a couple of hours.
ive just this minute tried again & were back to square one.
i dont have anything running in the background & i have tried changing from directx 11 & it still doesnt want to know.

I would suggest trying a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.

If this does not solve it, I would suggest doing a complete reinstall of the game.

Hit ctrl-shift-esc at the same time to bring it up. You might need to click on 'more details' at the bottom to bring up the start up tab they were talking about.
