From this post its clear you haven't played SWTOR.

I did more content in beta on my Sith Inquisitor getting to level 9 than I have in all of XIV. I've played SWTOR beta for 1 day. I've played XIV for over 1 year.

    You do the math.

-and I don't even like star wars, or quest grinder games..

If you're okay with shit and you enjoy the taste of shit, then far be it from me to stop you from eating shit. But when you start mixing your shit with my steak, you start crossing a boundary.
SWTOR has no plans to change, it's cement in its ways and its fans actually believe it's a great game. Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but SWTOR is sloppily put together with no ambitions further than a terribly put together game with graphics from 2005 that are "just good enough" to pander to the WoW/Star Wars/Bioware crowd. If you're into that kind of thing, that's up to you. The writings lazy, they've butchered the lore from KOTOR, the gameplay itself is absolutely nothing new except with lightsabers. Most all the moves are even directly from WoW itself.

You all claim there to be an "industry standard," but Blizzard didn't enjoy its major success from using the exact same UI as the rest of the MMOs on the market at the time, it innovated and streamlined its game, thought up new concepts. And look how good of a ride, regardless of your opinion, it had.

Starwar is probably the single most overhyped game in the last 3 years honestly.

It looks horrifically dated from release, the content (quest and dungeons) of the game is more or less a WoW clone. Combat is ok nothing really special. Voice acting is a plus. All in all after you weigh in everything it is a OK game. I would say slightly subpar compared to Rift and WoW if you want to compare other "successful" recent mmo games... Although WoW seems to be going down the drain rapidly lately.

For now yea ToR is miles better then XIV, but in XIV add in 10fold the content will XIV be better then? What will it be like when it reaches the point Zilart was at when the NA's got it. That is where I sit. So take XIV now and add more content then you can possibly do, and will it be good. For me there is no contest XIV will slaughter the current titles and ones releasing this year.

Quest Grinding mmos are not fun honestly they are as fun as group grinding mobs in XIV. They are great for say 20 levels then you never want to do another quest again. ToR is more of the same old same old with new twist. Basically the stuff that western studios have been putting out for years now. Honestly the only mmo that deserves to survive in the west is GW2 simply because they are adding things no one else did before.

In the end I see Tor having about 500-600k subs mainly starwars fans, there is simply nothing there to hold the non fans. Very simliar I see XIV having around the same global subs once the game is finished mainly the FF fans, XIV simply is not designed for mass mainstream western appeal.

ToR is the next Rift, it looks all shiny and great but when you get past the new coat of paint you see there is nothing else special.

The same can be said about this game single most overhyped game I'd would remind you. Year later lets revamp I use that word loosely, by starting pretty much another relaunch and the player base is already overhypeing it. It's astounding really how people seems to forget that concept when judging another game and not looking at there own first! Honestly it comes down to the individual player in what they like its not always about graphic either it about quality for some people.

I honestly hope the best for this game and a larger player base comes but mostly this game is fan driving mostly but this fan is going to give swtor a go with friend's.

This game will stay open but besides who is here now, I doubt anyone will remember or care in a year. Unfortunately, 2.0 is just too far off, and new things are constantly coming out for people to play. I personally do not think the subs will grow much beyond what is already here and it is a real shame. Gamers have too many options so a failed launch is close to a death sentence with most games barely able to stay alive on life support afterwards. However anything can happen so who knows...

i'm hoping for it to be great at 2.0 but it's iffy to me. lets hope they not building it for a possible wash to begin with. but i doubt the next year will work out at all for them, they will have there small base like others said and that bout it.

swtor while not being the game of all games it has packed servers with people to play with, not need to do much to get a group going for anything during the beta i played and don't expect that to change for least a year. the story to was fine even though i'm not a star wars fan, and even the easy game play was fine since i solo'd mostly everything. it's defenetly not a ffxiv killer when 2.0 comes out long as 2.0 has the content of ffxi did when NA launched. though alot of players are maxed out everything so even then will it really be enough? lets hope so. everyone that bought ffxiv i'm sure will come back and hopefully the other mmo's they are at lost it's fiz. but if this game stays in the path of easy content, pl'ing to max and weak content like it has now, it has not chance at all, everyone will go back to the game they already at and play the same type of content and wait for the sexxy new mmo's on it's way in a year. dark millennium/fallout/marvel that i know of, but i can just imagine what is in the make for 2013 and 14, also got gw2,diablo3 on it's way prior to 2.0 and they are no monthly.

other mmo's they will all take there piece of players but i doubt anyone that wouldn't of already left ffxiv by now even if it launched very well, lot of mmo'ers are in and out of mmo's like locusts, devour and off to the next piece of land. but there really will be some great mmo's coming out by 2013 lmao, way to long of a wait. time will tell is all. lets hope that ffxiv 2.0 is at the least trying to build a game for old ffxi players and the like where we can still give 5years of our lives to it, but i don't think so.

I personally think its gonna be a fresh game but it will still have lack of content when it launches. I personally think because of this they should pose pone the ps3 launch for another 3 months. That should be enough time to fix adjustments from after Version 2.0 and have new content ready.

Game lacks long term content or rewards which require alot.

NA had all this content when they launched, anything less is probably not gonna work out even if other mmo's launch with less lots of times, adding a pvp zone doesn't help there debacle like it does most mmo's. this is first and for most a pve game that has a pve audience.

hmm i don't play any other beta these days, soo i don't compare to anything..
but , 2.0 will be just a thing that will Finally bring this game up to an average level.
at least , I believe it won't be ultimately miracle patch.

I have no idea if the game will succeed at this point. I thought it was going to be a success at launch and then I played it. Then it went F2P for over a year to get "fixed." The game is not relevant to the larger MMO audience and I'm not sure a pre-rendered trailer at E3 is going to change that. SE has always sucked at marketing their games. They've been fortunate enough to rest on their laurels and create hype just by calling a game "Final Fantasy." I don't think that's as true as it once was. 2.0 looks great, but people are going to need a bit more than pretty pictures and words.

This game will not compete with TOR. There's really no debating that point. TOR has sold more boxed copy pre-orders (in NA only) than FFXIV has probably sold worldwide since release. They picked a very unfortunate time frame to start charging.

SE has a huge uphill battle to turn the perception of their product around. People will be trying these new MMO's i.e. TOR, Tera, GW2, TSW etc. Most people don't just decide to start playing another MMO that none of their friends play. Speaking for myself, social ties are what keep me playing these games. If my entire guild and RL friends decide they're going to play TOR for awhile, I'm not going to say peace and go play XIV with none of my buddies.
