1. DCU didn't have that many pre-orders (its current lifetime total sales amount to around 600k with PC and PS3 combined).
2. The point was that SWTOR has more pre-orders than FFXIV even shipped boxes, let alone sold (which is true).

actualy, DCU did have that many and more
they were overly bragging about how they had well over a million when it came out
but my point about different game genres and the fact that not everyone cares about every other mmo out there stands
Star wars right now isnt selling based on how great a game its going to be, this is pure fact
its selling cuz its friggin star wars

I have my doubts, currently.

playing skyrim, waiting on 1.20... then prolly 1.21... and if that doesn't go so well maybe just wait on 2.0

I'm not really sure. I want it too, and I hope it does. Though recently Yoshi-Ps vision of skip skip skip to the end and complete all there is to do quickly isn't what I want to do. I'm tired of skipping and being teleported. I want immersion, exploration, and most of all have fun. We don't have that right now.

I am playing the SWTOR beta this weekend and it is amazing. The quests and story line flow like a river of chocolate. I have been a fan of FF since Nintendo but I do not think XIV will see the success of XI due to the bad rep it has currently. It will have a decent fan base at launch but unless they have a Marketing Campaign that blows the neighsayers away it will peak at launch. Most of the people I talk to at my local video game store do not even care that XIV is even being rebuilt even after I explain to them all of the changes being made.i can't decide whether or not to start playing again, and now that i've played certain betas -cough- swtor -cough- I can realllllly see a difference.
I haven't really been paying attention to all the new updates or what has been going on with 2.0 since it was announced.
So from what you've been hearing, do you think the games going to drastically improve?
also now that the non-disclosure part of SWTOR for this weekend has been lifted. If you've played it, do you think FF will manage to compete with it?
edit: I'm also kinda skeptical about paying for an uncompleted beta.

Success really does depend on your definition.
for as wonderful as i think ff11 was for me personally i can come across ppl today that call it a fail from day 1
as for 14...to me, it is a success in the making. since the current team has taken over, i can see success happening each and every update. im loyal to ff and thats just me, i cant help it.
many of the other games ppl mentioned in this thread hold absolutly no interest to me, ever, they never would.
peoples interests are highly individualized.
i play 3 games at present, ff14, wow and rift ,and love each one for certain situations and certain content. and although wow is considered the "most successful" its not my favorite![]()
Not one game has everything i like, i enjoy each one for a different reason. and will remain in all 3 for many years because of that.
will 14 ever reach millions? idk but i also dont care really, i dont see it as a contest or competition (thats SEs job ^^)
it offers some fun and i think it can only blossom into something alot more IF the team sticks at it and revamps pretty much ...everything from the ground up (which they have indeed started doing )
