We keep getting hairstyles but almost nothing else.

I'm not here to assume that it's so easy to make, coding is hell, I know that. However, it bothers me that all we get is hairstyles, no facial hair, make up choices, tattoos, etc... to use at the Crystal Bell. Some male races still can't use certain beards because they're locked behind certain faces, and they gave us two pieces of clothing as facial hair, the mustache and the Santa beard, which both are currently cash shop items (sigh). And those aren't very convenient, because if you want to use a hat with a mustache, you can't, because your gear slot is taken by the fake hair.

The makeup/face paint section is also awfully outdated with absolutely nothing new since that one Halloween event (correct me if I'm wrong.). Same for tattoos, and extra race accessories.

Does anyone agree with me that it's okay for once to take a break from adding hairstyles and maybe for once, review the other options in character customization? I'm not asking for a new race, but much, much less. You'd think an expansion would expand more on all areas of the game, but we're still living in a customization system that is 7 years old with cute hairstyles that mostly clip or look stupid on male characters.

Yes, a good portion of us agree with this but this topic has been discussed to death by now. It has been reviewed, and answered by the Dev Team. They have "no time" to spare on the character creation and also want to keep racial identity. Basic PR saying that they got better things to do.

new facepaint/scars would be nice, but I think hair is an easy way to give absolutely everyone something new with relatively little work. The hair sits about the same on all races (barring miqote ear weirdness, damn side meatballs). Probably to avoid "well this facetype got this thing and I got nothing!" complaints we just get hair.
That and customization beyond hair and face details requires a fantasia and wouldn't particularly benefit vet players who don't want to re-roll or drop extra cash.

They either go with that or their default excuse "server limitations". With a company as big as them they should be able to meet the demand and then some, but they simply choose not to. The cash shop for this game is ridiculous. Where's the money going? Not back into the game, that's for sure.

It's been spectulated that all the subscription money goes to the parent company Square Enix.
Who then give the FFXIV devs a budget out of it to work with.
How much? We have no idea.

But, I do believe the devs have said in the past that mog station purchases go directly to them.
And those are what funded the datacenter moves, out of canada to california and over in the EU.

This game is funding XV's bs of more DLC. That's where it's going sadly.. I like XV but the DLC is ridiculous.. The dumb game is nearing 100 GBs on platforms now...

Don't forget funding the VII remake. Have you seen the size of Tifa's boobs in that thing? They probably needed an entire server farm just to render them.

It seems to me that there are two different "types" of options in the character customisation menu. There's "pick 1 out of X options" like the hairstyles and face paint, and "choose how many of these elements you want" like the scars and tattoos.

I would guess that maybe they can add new options into the first kind of list more easily than the second.
