This community, hard to scratch the right spot aye.
You seem to act like everyone is this way and that everyone was begging for the sets, when in reality people that wanted the sets will probably already have them and not give a shit one way or the other.

I can't remember "bitching" about that. I remember asking for fair opportunities for everyone though.

    Unfortunately, yeah. That's very true.

This is why "if you don't want it, don't buy it" isn't a valid argument. This system is built on the backs of the minority who don't care about spending this kind of money (whether they have it or it's more than they can afford). Voting with our wallet will never work. Look at what happened with EA and Battelfront II: they lost sales because of the controversy so what are they doing? Putting microtransactions back in. Despite the loss of sales being because of those. Classic.

This isn't entirely true. Not only did EA come over a million units under their estimation, they lost three million in stock and rumours are circling Disney has begun looking for another publisher. EA took a beating over the consumer revolt. Yes, micro-transactions are going back in but the reward system has been heavily scaled back to accommodate people who only want to grind. Honestly, it's more a desperation move on their part to squeeze what little money is left before Battlefront II dies, which will happen significantly faster due to the controversy. Voting with your wallet does work, it just requires enough people to agree.

That's an excellent point, I forgot about the shareholder loss. That being said this was a Star Wars game, which has a massive global fanbase few franchises can compete with and a company heavily tied to children's entertainment. If this had not been a Star Wars game I don't think it would have reached nearly the same scale of bad press. Because games both in the AAA space and mobile have already been getting away with that stuff for years.

I hope that's changing. I honestly do. Right now what little evidence the industry lets us have is pointing the other direction though.

What company doesn't have microtransactions nowadays? Companies CEOs have become so willing to force microtransactions into games that it's scary. Most of them just wanna go for that get rich scheme, regardless on how it impacts the quality of a game. The developers sadly get the backlash of it that sometimes they never wanted the transactions in the first place. XIV's microtransactions are in a weird state. On the one hand it feels like they're squeezing us for more cash. On the other hand, the higher ups don't really support the game much and only offer limited staffing and funding for the game, on top of using the funds generated from XIV on other projects. Eventually something will give.

Which makes comparing them kinda useless because unlike P2P games those F2P games need those cash shop items to survive. So it makes sense that you have to pay much more than in P2P games. So FF14 not only takes sub money, expansion pack money but also overprices all the stuff in their cash shop on top of that. So I cant just agree with your statement that it could be worse because you cant simply compare those.

You do know that this mog station deal is even worse than paying 30€ for it? Because people were ready to pay the price for two outfits, two masks, one mount and smaller stuff that are all account wide..what they got is 18$ for one outfit so way more than your price if you want both and with no mount and they are single character only..so even those that were willing to pay much more are having a worser deal..so please stop making it look like we are not happy with anything at all..people wanted the same deal as the one that had the promotion..but they got something less for much more money. (Lets not forget that you got a real item for the money and the codes where the extra)

    ---

I mean people were angry that we barely got any informations about future campaigns about this (and I think Japan and NA even got them twice, even though they already had quite the nice campaigns..) and that barely any EU country got one. So they told us that we dont have to worry because they will be put into the mog station only to put it in there for a much much worse deal. This is not a fair threatment of the customers..thats like stomping on the EU players that want to have the same fair chance than the other nations and then telling them that they will get their chance only to stomp on them again which such a horrible deal..this is not even like older events where people had the chance to take part of it as long as they were online at that time and no matter where they lived they could do it. No a lot of players never had the chance at all..

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

That is something I would have liked to see SE do too. World-wide promos, no country-specific stuff that gives a certain player advantage over the other. I got my sets for free via the O2 campaign. I haven't seen any Japanese players asking for a refund because their sets weren't for free? Meanwhile my gf didn't mind at all paying now and getting hers. It's a cosmetic thing after all.

Unrelated to the quoted post, what baffles me is how the line is often blurred - are you all fighting about cosmetic items that you feel entitled to have or are you complaining about SE's take on handling these 'promotions'? Because it can't be both.

If a Single item, for a single character cost more then 1 month subscription, You are doing it Wrong.
If you're going to sell me something so expensive at least give me 1 free month of Sub
