I don't like Balmung as much as the next guy, but jeez, the hyperbole in this thread is pretty strong.
Raubahn EX was bad because the total population of the Aether data center was too high in general, redistributing the population within the different servers in the data center wouldn't even be a factor in that.
"Consider this old adage: When a Bard sings alone in a desert, and no one is around to hear him... Is he truly singing?"

Balmung has crashed Aether before with it's lopsided distribution. This is what we're afraid of happening again especially combined with the rush that accompanies any housing release.I don't like Balmung as much as the next guy, but jeez, the hyperbole in this thread is pretty strong.

Everyone logging on for housing at the same time, combined with a rush to create new characters on Balmung all zoning into the starting areas at the same time. That's a pretty solid thumb on one end of the scales.
Here's to hoping everything goes better than expected though.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?

It's possible it might not be open to alt creation and only be open to world transfer services. Gilgamesh is locked as well if you try to make alts at peak hours.
Blah I hate over populated servers either in real life or in games my introverted personality can't stand crowds.

Let's not forget about Gilgamesh, which was also a highly populated server before it's population died down after it had become a congested server. It was a combination of those two servers on the same datacenter that caused crashes.
Yea, I dunno why people seem to suddenly be forgetting about the standard restriction on character creation. Even before Balmung became a congested server, it was often only possible to create characters in the few minutes after a maintenance had ended.

I'm not trying to lay blame exclusively at the feet of Balmung, I just wanted to clarify why the feathers are getting ruffled with this announcement. Sure, Gilgamesh and Balmung crashed Aether, multiple times. Lets hope their time in isolation has been enough to reduce their populations to non-issue causing proportions.Let's not forget about Gilgamesh, which was also a highly populated server before it's population died down after it had become a congested server. You mean like.. the few minutes after the patch goes live and where everyone usually logs in to buy their house? *eek* There was no delay when they went live for FCs. I highly doubt they'll do the delay for the personal, lets hope though.

Ahahaha, this is priceless, I say we see an emergency maintenance around 2-3 hours later when the transfer requests and new char creation makes Yoshi realize how naive he was.
There seriously is no saving Balmung - I'm so Grateful to be on a EU center!

The circlejerking on this thread is pretty unreal.
I don't think Balmung was supposed to be unlocked either, but really.

They probably did something different like set something up and are testing this new idea. So it's gonna be interesting to see what happens. Good luck to them and even if it doesn't work, hopefully they have a much better idea on what to do next.
