Having to slog through lvl 50 quests is tedious

So after I defeated the Ultima Weapon and saw the various (and well done) cutscenes, and felt all the feels and was ready to jump headfirst into HW content, I discovered that I have to endure 100+ ARR quests first.

This is the reason why I wouldn't recommend FFXIV to any of friends. Think about all the other FREE MMORPGs out there that have better story, better combat, better user interface, and without a monthly subscription. And then ask yourself why someone would want to get involved with a game like FFXIV, where to get to the end-game content, you have to grind through over 300+ quests (half of which could just as well not be there), or pay to skip it all. It's almost insulting.

People will often ask me what I'm playing, and as soon as they show an interest, I immediately warn them about why they shouldn't play. And it's always the same answer - the MSQ is such a huge obstacle, it would take anyone an immense amount of dedication, motivation, and time to get through all of it, that they're probably better off getting into something else.

I really hope they find a better way to deal with this...

I am thinking .... and can't think of any MMORPG that matches all of that. Few have better story, and those few that do either have worse combat or worse user interface.

Yet...the story is a staple of all Final Fantasy games. Even a huge chunk of spinoff FF games still have some kind of significant story attached to them. One also has to remember that at the time of release, they were staggered off into patches. Dragonsong and post-Dragonsong have almost the same number of quests - imagine if that was 2.0 and our 4.0 was something else...I guarantee that this same discussion would be had. We who are in 4.2 don't feel it anymore because we're in 4.2, but because pretty much every 2.0 quest builds into 'Before the Dawn', it would be hard to condense some of that down.

There is the jump potion option...but in turn, that pretty much takes away an optional free 'watch video summary' to skip into HW option. Honestly, I can't think of a way to deal with the 2.x MSQ because of the story. Yea, you could shave some quests, but the vast majority of it would still be a slog no matter what.
