Eureka is homage to FFXI? Similiarities.

In case you read the Live Letter correctly, it seems that Eureka has a lot of similarities that are similar to what FFXI had offered (with one thing from the past).

To list the similarities:

1) Elemental weaknesses/strengths.
2) Monsters chase you across the map.
3) Fear of losing exp when getting KO'd.
4) Forcing grouping up into parties within Eureka.

Did I miss anything else? It seems to be their answer of paying back homage to FFXI in one similar way.

There was a shot of miqote wearing a Scorpion Harness and Trotter/Strider's boots. Both of which featured prominently in the "Jeuno HNM" era of XI

Funnily enough though, Eureka itself is actually from FFIII, which still has a connection to FFXI anyway (both games were originally produced by Hiromichi Tanaka, who was also FFXIV 1.0's original producer, but I digress), and that Tanaka is on record as saying that FFXI was "everything he originally wanted FFIII to be but couldn't implement because of the technical limitations with consoles of the time" (paraphrased). So it makes sense in an odd sort of way.

Either way, I admit I am intrigued by this, although I hope this isn't just going to just be a 'Vana'diel-themed-Palace-of-the-Dead'.

Imho, much FFXI's mid-tier gear was better than most of its high-tier gear. Iron Cuirass, Seers, Noct, Shade.

Then again I'm still salty we never got higher-tiered versions of the "boring" Sixth Astral Era equipment.

Seven hells, we lost a good chunk of the lower-tiered versions.

There's a certain charm to 'simple' and 'low level' looking gear, anyway. Especially as a role-player. My character uses a firearm to defend himself with and I use the 'Bloody Murder' gun as a glamour. It's a level 47 weapon and in my opinion it looks better than the vast majority of other firearms in the game. It's sleek, elegant and does not clip with other gear.

I wouldn't consider the things you list as homages to FFXI specifically. These are things common with first generation MMOs in general.

Now, I would expect to see some XI homages in there. Being SEs own first generation MMO, many people will make associations with it.
