Another thing I felt kinda :/ about that there was no explanation for, but I'd like to see changed in 2.0 is...."where are the kids", I liked the choice of making the humes and elezen more teen aged than kid, but there are no teen miqote, or roegadyn, and I'm not sure if I could tell if a lalafell was a teen :/ How about more elderly, obviously we're adventurer's we don't look dopey and normal when we're old, show some older B.A. npcs with scars, war torn, drinking at the adventurer's guild and tell stories and pass out cool quests. And don't see this as a complaint, I like this kind of discussion due to the nature of it, how deep can we make the game without really adding much too it, its the little things that count, SE can only learn this if we tell them, and they are bit by bit trying, with landmarks and world events and such, but the little things like identifying with npcs and such also counts.

I agree! I wouldn't mind seeing those little S.O.B.'s again. Or any young ones, really.

I also wonder if a lot of the problem wasn't a result of this 40 character display limitation. When that gets removed, maybe we'll see a lot more life added to the world.

I didn't like how I was treated either when I started in Gridania with my first character.
But I had to change servers because of a friend, so my current character is from Limsa Lominsa, and I feel very at home there. I also chose Limsa as my Grand Company, because I feel so very at home here.
Maybe that's why I feel different about your compaints, because it's different in Limsa..?

    For sure this did happen.
In the German forum, there was even a complaint about this because someone felt offended by the way an Elezen retainer was talking (not with much dignity..he was calling her names and tried to make her smell his armpits..).
And because of that we compared the things retainers say in different languages (because many people are bilingual), and we noticed there were no such rude Elezen in Japan NOR in America

There are old NPCs, for example, there's a really old grandma in Limsa Lominsa who wants you to search for her son who has been gone for ages. It's a very sweet story..because it totally fits the image I have of old people who stay back xD

2.0 eh... what does that remind me of... ah nevermind -.-

I'd say Gridania is really the worst one when it comes to how you are treated, but I still stayed there and the Serpents are a nice bunch. I think the largest part why they treat you like that is because most outsiders just don't care about the nature at all, which isn't understandable for someone who has grown up in harmony with it (or fear of the elementals). So they are rather distrustful/prejudiced at first. After you prove yourself to them, they will accept you.

I played Limsa in alpha and beta and I didn't really like it, mostly cause of the whole pirate theme/the way they act. Ul'dah is full of corruption on the other hand so it wasn't my cup of tea either, though those 2 lala miners partially made up for it. I was pretty disappointed when I was told to go to Ul'dah after the Gridanian part finished.

    Hi Maea,

The tone of the NPCs is something I've noticed as well, mostly condescending. And the class quests make me feel either one of two things: I'm just the camera or that I'm some type of scum that someone decides to use just because I'm standing around. Our characters feel silent and don't seem to stick up for themselves. It doesn't help with story fights where you have to lose. I always feel the novice.

Without spoilers here: main story line quests made me feel too passive. My companion takes up so much screen time that I forgot I was even playing a character (it doesn't help I did these back to back after reaching level 48). Thancred and friends are the only story/company NPCs that seem to be respectful and don't make me feel like a perma-novice.

Makes me feel heavily out of sync when my character is forced into a silent passive role on top of being considered useless and being nationless/homeless.

As you said, each city treats us like outsiders. Where are we from? The conversations are too "you're a foreigner" and less neutral, especially in Gridania. I remembered that Gridania and Twin Adders made me feel like an unsexy woodsinner. Didn't help that I was a thaumaturge at the time of the first quest. I felt like nothing I would ever do would make me feel welcome here, so I wanted no further part in it.

Where Immortal Flames kinda seemed like, "Everybody is scum, 'cept boss man." "Eh... I just want my chocobo now."

whoops!!! fell asleep while typing and been piece-mealing this together, may be incoherent and/or repetitive.

Just saying. Otherwise I agree with the majority here.

Oh, thank you. I thought I was the only one here that thought that.
