I haven’t messed with the dresser yet. You’re telling me if I have a plate to WHM and a plate for AST that when I switch jobs I also have to switch plates? With that, I will keep using the old glamour system because that sounds annoying AF.
apparently there's a macro workaround for this, I forget what exactly it is but it's something like the gearset macro now takes 2 arguments, so the first number is the gearset and the second is the glamour plate (or something like that, there's a thread about it somewhere)
You can macro your gearsets to your plates.
All you have to do is /gearset change X Y
X = gearset number
Y = plate number
That way you can quickly apply the plates to your gearsets as you change jobs.
It is not different from the old system at all in this regard.
OLD SYSTEM:
I glam stuff one by one on my white mage
I glam stuff one by one on my AST
Some gear was shared and unique, so I just accidentally broke my white mage look when I switched jobs.
now I have to reapply my glamour anytime I switch from WHM to AST and back because I'm using shared unique gear.
Because i"m using the old system that means having the equipment and lots of glamour prisms
"New system"
I apply a plate that has all my glam stuff white mage
I apply a plate that has all my glam stuff for AST
Some gear was shared and unique, so I just accidentally broke my white mage look when I switched jobs. (the plate itself is still fine)
now I have to reapply my glamour anytime I switch from WHM to AST and back because I'm using shared unique gear.
Because i'm using the plate system that means I don't need the equipment or glamour prisms, but I need to be in a city.
So literally the only thing that changes is the last line about what it costs.
Stop thinking of it as a different system. It's just the old system in bulk.
Which is why you can also do this:
I apply a plate with only my armor
I use old system to glam my weapons
or this
I apply a plate
I reglam individual items on top of it using old sytem
I switch jobs and back and still have the mixed look because it's not like anything is actually tied to plate
absolutely no different than reglamoring using the old system other than having multiple items done at once and no glamour prisms every time you reglamor.

Like a lot of features in XIV, they tend to introduce it; then improve it later.
It is my hope they do the same for the glamour dresser, as it is quite flawed atm (I thought they were going to allow us to have different glamours via the plates for jobs of the same role??)
Most people like it, it could just be a lot better.
But thats the problem we cant just say that..maybe most do maybe most dont. At least in the forum there are enough people annoyed at it and even on reddit we have negative opinions..but still those are only a small amount of players. So no we dont know that most people like it. Thats why they need ingame surveys because that would give them the true feelings of the whole player base..or at least a much bigger sample..
I mean they can go around and say that x amount of people use the dresser but does that necessarily mean that they truly like it? No they cant because there are many reasons to still use it even if you dislike it.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I also like the Glamour Dresser. It has allowed me to free up quite a bit of INV on 'clothes' type items and some older gear that I had been reluctant to part with because of glam-worthiness. It lets me put seasonal glams together quickly and lets me hide my accessories in one simple action instead of wasting prisms individually on multiple gearsets.
A thing to keep in mind however: You cannot currently use the dresser for Retainers or your Squad. If you like to make your retainers or squad look a certain way, make sure you keep that stuff out so you can reapply for new members or whatever.
I can't wait until it's released for personal use (in housing). That will just make it even better. But for those who don't like it as much, at least prisms are finally universal now. I don't see anyone crowing about that even though its the best thing that's happened, glam-wise, since they abolished the prism 'grades'. Anyone remember those days? (those dark, dark days)
(Edit: Actually I suppose you CAN use the dresser with Retainer gear since it overwrites the glams, but you'd have to take it off your Retainer and put it on yourself, then apply the plate--then put it back on your Retainer. -Squads are really the only exception but I think the old system is probably better for Retainers, ATM.)
