I retain my previous sentiments that people are just going to have to behave themselves. I say this not wanting to do like SE and think for the players, and entirely in the wrong ways. If someone wants to behave poorly, I'm prepared to take them down and style on them. Or if the case is extreme enough, report them. I'm not worried about who's going to try and ruin the fun for everyone, but I AM prepared to deal with it as necessary. Beyond that, it's all fair in there.

Besides, we've talked about all the negatives already. Rather than pointing out what might not work, why not help this idea grow?

If such a thing came into existance, I’d be pretty proud I helped with this concept. I actually want this to be a thing. Like I said, I like Guild Wars 2’s WvW and PVP system. They’re instanced away from PVE content, have plenty of potential, and honestly, I found their playerbase is rather supportive. I want that sort of system here. It sounds fun, and it’s the brainchild of people passionate on both sides.

This, coming from a mostly anti-PVPer (me), saying that this concept sounds fun and fair for both parties involved. Lets make this work.

I don't think the community will be half as noble as you want them to be but I'll be happy to be proven wrong.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this statement but you can't help the idea grow without pointing out what might not work AND what might work. You need to find what isn't working and deal with it or you'll just have a broken mess on your hands; which nobody wants. For example, here's a couple points I didn't see mentioned that should be considered.

    * Map Level - If there are fates or attackable mobs then the map needs to have a level range. What should it be for this map? If lv 30 characters can enter then placing mobs at lv 70 puts them at a nightmarish disadvantage to everyone, including their own team. If its Lv 30 with mobs and fates in the range of 30-40, then the mobs become trivial and the fates beg the question of level sync. If players are level synced in a fate, can people outside the fate attack them?

    * Flight - Should it be allowed? If its allowed then it could add an interesting dynamic for scouting, it also opens the possibility of being attacked while airborne and being forced to land so flight isn't an automatic safe zone.

    * Swimming - Should it be included? There's no underwater combat and I would expect technical limitations in trying to let someone attack something in the water given that you have to cross that zone boundary. Swimming would be a default safe zone because of it and potentially a means of safe travel between locations (also a safe place to gather/spear fish if included). I think as long as its not possible to cover more than 25% of the map in a single swimming area then it wouldn't be game breaking.

    * Spawn camping - Its pvp, you know its going to happen at some point. How do you limit this? Automated guards to force players to keep a distance? Multiple exits from the base that don't have line of sight with each other? Flight/swimming?

I assume it would follow the same rules as current pvp. Levels and skills are generalized upon entering the zone. No swimming or flying mounts. As for spawn camping, maybe add steam cannons like in Rival Wings to safe zones and a flying porter that can take you to other safe zones. Ganking and spawn camping can be a pain but it's part of what makes pvp fun. Get back at those who did it to you.

    I'll restate to avoid negativity.

    1. You want more than two sanctuaries so a small amount of people can't effectively camp them.
    2. You want to not have report because people get very mad in open world especially, and might weaponize it, especially if ganked.

there, that's all I have to add to this thread.

    1. There would be more than just two sanctuaries, of course. You have a choice between the two nearest ones when respawning.

    2. I'm going to take a moment and really just speak freely on this: IF you would be the type of player to "weaponize" reporting another player, that is not only petty, it's submitting a report with malicious intent, which I believe is also a violation. You don't want to get ganked? I don't either. So I won't. Golden Rule. Now, if you pull that on me, hey, it's game on. If I so choose to return the favor, I will do so with full force. Let there be no hurt feelings. Is it right? Probably not. Is it fair? Probably not. Will people do it? Probably so. . . But am I going to play this game constantly worried about what other people do that I don't like, or am I going to do what it takes to enjoy the game as I see fit? People don't gank because they want a fight. They do it because they THINK it won't be a fight. So FIGHT them. It's not so fun for them when the tables get turned and suddenly they might be the one getting ganked. And if suddenly the tables get turned and they're forced to eat a little dirt, maybe that'd be a good moment to reflect and consider if trying to take advantage of others unaware/unprepared is such a great idea or not?

My advice to anyone interested in open world PvP who may have apprehensions or anxiety: Get in. Get stomped. Stomp others. You're neither untouchable, nor a walking target for others. Be bold. If confronted, go all out. Don't hold back. You're eventually going to win big. You'll eventually lose big too. Accept this, and challenge yourself. Determine who you are and what you are to others through your actions, not your fears or concerns. Experience will be your best teacher, but be humble in seeking to learn from others. Make friends. Find a rival. Embrace adventure.

As long as the PVP stays WELL away from story and story doesn't go into these PVP open zones I can get behind this.

SE can investigate whether a report is valid or not. Most reports will be about nasty messages after someone loses, heat of the moment trash talk, and people trying to find exploits. SE doesn’t ban on a whim - there’s steps to it. Usually it consists of a warning, then a day or two suspension, then a week suspenion, month, etc. Until you either learn your lesson, or they get tired of dealing with it and ban you. I highly doubt anyone can “weaponize” reports.

We need reports anyway - otherwise the PVP zone will have RMT sellers spamming chat, people shouting horrible things or giving out people’s personal information, etc. Most reports aren’t about he said the “fudge” word to me. People don’t typically waste their time with it. And frivolous reports are ignored or the people get a warning for embellished stories as reports.

The Nadaam was based on Seal Rock (Seize), and The Borderland Ruins map has been used for a 3.5 story instance and a Heavensward SMN quest.

Putting that aside, we've already covered that there won't be any reason for anything non-PvP related to happen there. The Grand Companies decided it was too devastated to even bother sending any expeditions in there, and the only other story related anything that takes you there is Second Coil (the fragment is in the West Shroud), and that was purely optional.
