I caused a duty finder nightmare for some poor healer this last week. Ported into 50/60 roulette as WAR with two FC mates as BRD and NIN, got Copperbell Mines HM. All three of us know how to speed run this dungeon, so I just went for it. Problem is... I have names off and was distracted by voice chat at the start of the dungeon, so I totally missed the message about the poor PUG White Mage being new to the dungeon (and being a sprout too... I'm so sorry...)

So I start off, pull the first pack and /wave the healer onto the elevator so we can skip the Coblyns. Charge past the next skippable pull without saying anything, then proceed to pull the hell out of everything on the walkways at sprint, leaving the healer scrambling to catch up (by this time, she must have already been like "WTF is going on"). First boss, I have an inkling that she's not up-to-date on what we're doing here, but I also was super tired and didn't want to explain every single thing in a less than 15 minute dungeon. So I dropped a waymarker where I wanted her to stay and just said "Don't move from there." To her credit, we cleared it in one go with only one death, but I'm sure that was a very hectic 1:30 seconds of flame and bomb AOEs... XD

We pull through to the second boss and I make the big mistake of not telling her not to touch the enemies in the room with the miners... Me and the two DPS go sailing past... She hits the enemies instead of running with us. D'oh! By the time I get back to her, she is hella dead, and now has to run back through all the enemies we left untouched on the first go-through. TvT (That went about as well as you might imagine.)

Took a while, but we made it to the second boss. Trying to explain this one is weird anyway, and I was hoping she'd have that innate fear of Bombs we should all have by this point, so I did the incredibly stupid thing and pulled without explaining. She was almost immediately killed by accidentally standing in one of the Bomb's AOEs. We wipe from lack of heals afterward, which all three of us in the voice chat agreed we deserved. I explained enough the second time and we went through just fine.

Finally, the final boss. At this point, I can only assume this healer is silently stewing in a deep-seated rage and hatred for me, confused beyond measure and maybe like all of two clicks from trying to kick me for forcing a speed run and getting her killed so many times... So what do I do? I pull the final boss without explaining anything, that's what I do! (To be honest, at this point I was so amused by our repeated silly failures that I was almost committed to sailing that ship straight into the impending iceberg.)

You can guess what happened! Yes, we wiped. The healer did not know the adds cannot be tanked and ran them away from the DPS and myself. The DPS were lazy about feeding the worm, which the healer clearly did not know how to do... Another well-deserved wipe.

All in all, it took us longer to clear than if I had pulled everything one pack at a time, and I don't think the WHM had any better idea of how to speed run that dungeon at the end than she did at the beginning.

But somehow, after all of that, she comm'd me. The guilt I feel to this moment is haunting.

Maybe I'm a cold-hearted jerk but I wouldn't feel bad for getting that comm if I personally played well. (And honestly, by 50, you should know NOT to do some of the stuff she did; specifically, running away with adds and standing in bad.) If you all commed her for being a good sport in a hectic dungeon run, then it's fair IMO. And you never know, maybe she didn't mind going into the fights blind. I personally hate it when people spoil mechanics for me before I have a chance to see them myself. When I go into DF and see a newbie I stay quiet and let them see for themselves unless they ask. And for Trials, I'll offer to explain stuff but otherwise I am okay with pulling and seeing what happens. Experience and failure are the best teachers after all.

    !
Oh! I have an idea. Give all tank classes at least one instance--even if it means adjusting old ones--per set of quests per level range where they have to pull a mob from a range. If they try pulling with Provoke then the mob explodes for 999,999 damage, and the tank is treated to a special duty failure scene where the remaining mobs, and a few GM-looking NPCs come in and point/laugh at the tank's dead body.

    Yeah, I can definitely respect that. I usually ask if I see someone new whether they want explanation. It was just more in this case, it was really obvious she needed tips to prevent wipes, and I could have provided that explanation and prevented those wipes... and I just didn't because the confusion and mishaps were entertaining to us in the voice call. I still do feel bad though, thinking it might not have been as funny from her side! D;

And as to your story - seems like a common thing with healers anymore.

I had a really fun run earlier! I'm still leveling BRD and decided to make a PF for 50/60. Got a DRK and an AST right away. We landed in Halatali (HM). Tank, myself, and the healer all chimed in that we haven't been there in a while. So what happens? The sprout we were with ended up explaining the fights. Oh, and did I mention that the three of us were all mentors?

Everyone had a really good time and there were a lot of jokes and comments going around. The DRK even added me as a friend afterwards in case I needed help in the future with roulette. Thank you new Cactuar friend!

Today I dived once more into the roulletes and got Tam Tara Deepcroft Hard as summoner.

Joined by a duo of sprouts - thought this was going to be intriguing - to add to that - I was joining a dungeon in progress....yet early start...hmmm

First boss - we kept getting our rear ends handed to us - which is funny cause usually we just burn our way through the boss - and now things are going horribly wrong. We all sit and scratch our heads...and via google we figure out what was missing - had a laugh..pushed through... second boss...did fine....still learning mechanics as we go hahah.

In the end we became a solid group and managed to get through just fine.

just goes to show - even as a seasoned dungeon runner - some of us cant remember jack squat for weird odd ball dungeon mechanics - but when you take the time to be patient and learn with others - you can have a blast doing it.

Just ended up leaving Doma Castle from a Balmung PLD who refused to use CDs and told me I didn't know how to heal because I wasn't stacking all 3 regens on him every pull (he wanted Regen + Med II + Asylum every pull and said he wouldn't need CDs with that). The problem: he couldn't hold hate even without regens, if I had put any on him I would have died since he was too busy complaining and just auto-attacking. I left immediately after the first trash pack after the colossus since he clearly isn't interested in actually doing his job. I've never needed all 3 regens up except when people do that suicidal first-boss to 2nd-boss pull. He also tried to do a double pack pull right at the start and literally died instantly when HG wore off, despite having Asylum + Regen up (with largesse). When you're taking more than your max HP in damage in a single tick, there's nothing I can do to save you.

I feel your pain...I really do. LOL
Stacking Asylum? That's a new one..half the time the damn tank doesn't stay put anyway. At least you didn't get told to spam holy WHILE doing all of that... RIP Manapool/cooldowns.

Slaved away this weekend and got my 99 susano/lakshmi tokens.

Boy, I'm so glad I don't have to deal with PF for these two instances anymore, and can now focus on Shinryu (and perhaps neo kill).

I'm so tired of these parties.

Lakshmi farm where no one seems to grasp the one relevant mechanic in the entire fight (vril, if anyone is not familiar with the fight), people randomly panicking with aoes and walking out the arena, people rushing to kill adds without vril, double-tank parties where the blue orb cleave still finds its way onto stray healers/DPS (who then have no idea what to do with it, or just don't even notice it's there).

Susano farms where tanks seem to have no idea what tank swaps entail, and when to do them (only grabbing aggro after the MT dies, or insisting that swaps shouldn't be necessary anyway - which is true, but if I wanted a solo tank party I'd have brought a fifth DPS along, not a second tank, damnit), no one moving to drop lightning on the other side of the arena, people not stacking under sword and getting hit by orbs, or repeatedly dropping cloud marker on the safe zone...

I'm just so, so glad I won't have to do either of those anymore. I'm not saying I don't derp, but wow, some of those parties are just anything but farm parties. I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of fun with Shinryu as well, can hardly wait for it. :^)

Not sure if people post PF shenanigans here as well or if it's mostly DF, but well! Just wanted to rant a bit.
