Arcanist, the next THM?

Arcanist is a class. Red Mage will probably be a job. Question is, what class will red mage linked too.

Hence why Red Mage is written as job and Arcanist as class ?

They cannot put a new class without a job now.

Spell-wise, I agree completely, but Red Mages use rapiers. My guess use a fencing melee class will be the base which Red Mage is built upon.
