Adressing the roots of the housing problem

Greedy.

It's not greedy. I know more than a few players who bought multiple houses and started FC's on their alts (mainly for airships) because wards were empty for months and they had the gil and time to sink into such projects.

Telling those players to go screw themselves because they worked and purchased land with in the rules is beyond selfish.

If anything the whole Apartment system should be reworked so that apartments function just like houses but as a personal ward/zone. Allow players to pick any size plot they want for the current cost of plots and allow players to assign apartments as personal or FC so they can have airships and submarines.

Please explain to me how owning several houses isn't selfish. Or in other terms explain to me how asking to share incredibly limited playable content with your fellow Eorzeans is selfish.... We’re not talking market board items or loot here, were talking about content.

I do not have a horse in this race but I can see how broken the system is ( hopefully can be less broken soon with 4.2 ). I've in fact bought several houses to give away to friends in housing updates in the past and do not have a personal house of my own at this moment. I could have easily kept them all on alts or scalped them, but I chose to be kind and courteous to people I care about who couldn't be online at the time or got stuck in the terrible server q. I did that because I did not need them. Choosing to keep them, merely because I wanted all of them, would indeed have been a selfish act when I already had full control of my FC's house.

I'm not asking these people to give up their gil spent on the houses. Yes 100% SE should give a 100% refund to houses IF they ever were taken. And let's not pretend that workshop items ( airships ) and shell FCs don't have a huge resale value. I've made millions on selling old used Airship parts my FC didn't need anymore.

And are we really going to cry over spilt milk? Gil has almost no value in this game. It comes and goes very easily. What are you sacrificing by giving up a few bound housing items ( Excluding Mogstation wallpapers which I believe SE should be permitting people to get back, it's criminal that they don't... I digress ). My total gil oscillates between 50-200mil every few months. It is not difficult to make money in this game if you can be bothered to put forth incredibly minimal effort.

I honestly would like to know your opinion on this. I’m truly not being hostile at all. I'm just curious because what you're saying stands if perfect juxtaposition of everything thing I’ve ever heard about greed or selfishness in terms to the housing in FFXIV. Choosing to take more of something just because you can, is in my opinion, the definition of selfish. Please for the love of the twelve prove me wrong…

Edit: Im also not saying anyone who owns more than one house broke the rules or anything. We did what we did because they let us. Square Enix had too much faith in the kindness of strangers and the generosity of their commnity. We all used the housing system the way it was given to us. It's not perfect but we love it and want it to be better. Better for everyone and not just a chosen few with fast connections and bottomless pockets.

It's no more selfish than you. If you farm mats all day and craft a lot of HQ materials and equipment, is it selfish of you to sell them on the auction house instead of giving them away to any random player you meet?

Is it anymore selfish than you saving up millions of Gil to buy something like a pet instead of giving all your Gil to the first person you see?

It's not. There was no rule saying players couldn't own 2 houses per character and there is no rule saying you have to give up everything you gain to random players.

You both follow the rules of the game. The only difference is the few people who own multiple houses were better at the game than you and they have something you want.

You are just as selfish as any player in game. Don't fool yourself into thinking you are just super generous and above others who also play the game with in the confines of the rules.

People who were able to buy multiple houses have no social requirement to give away the properties they worked for and purchased. The fact that you think so just shows how selfish you really are.

It is not backwards reasoning. You are advocating something being taken away for a "want", not a "need". That is selfish.

The difference is that houses are LIMITED, materials, pets, equipment and whatever else you could come up with is not. Stop trying to defend a selfish act. Doesn't matter if you followed the rules or not.

Those examples are in no way similar. There isn’t a finite number of minions or loot or gil in this game.

What IS there a finite number of? Houses.

So yes, it is extremely selfish to hoard houses, locking other players out of certain contents in doing so. No, it isn’t selfish to earn gil to buy pets, give to friends, or even buy savage wins. There isn’t a set amount of any of those.

Here’s hoping SE takes away toys from the selfish people.
