Survey: Community Opinions Regarding Parsing/Parsers in Final Fantasy XIV

I have a question for HyoMin though. I already took the survey but one of my answers has changed recently so... I don't want to take the survey again and skew the results, but now my survey is no longer completely true. Should I retake the survey? I don't think it's really that important over all, I was just curious.

I would not recommend retaking it, since the data pool is relatively small compared to the entirety of the playerbase, and retaking would skew it (albeit just slightly so, probably nothing terribly significant), though may I ask which of your opinions has changed? :3

The "never saw parser harassment" thing

It's like... seriously? From what I can gather I'm assuming the BLM was possibly using a parser (so was I but...) and turned into an ass about it. RIGHT after I filled out HyoMin's survey saying I have never seen harassment due to a parser. =/

If we're in a sample size of 1000+, I'd just retake it as it's not going to skew things by much.

I participate in end game content sans ultimate, and my static do parse our runs. I personally don’t parse and my view towards parsing is indifferent. I do take occasional peeks at the parses to see how well I do, as well as visits to the SSS to brush up on my rotations. I have not had the misfortune to witness any harassment through the usage of parses. From the forums and various communities I’ve seen so far, FFXIV doesn’t seem to have as much dps harassment as another game I’ve played in the past, and the other game is indeed harsher on parsers than the devs of FFXIV currently is.

Something like that is bound to change for people over time. I would not worry too much about retaking it, since it's a more anecdotal experience thing compared to your opinion actually changing, unless you witnessing it actively shifted your opinions towards parsers from pro- to anti- or another viewpoint. :3

You play in a closed group with high end skill, of course you are not going to see the common or majority. That should have been implied when I said your post was not responding to me, you are basically explaining why you do not see parser harassment and has nothing to do with what I was saying. I even seen parsar toxicity in FFXIV.

I'm playing with pugs, who have similar skill as I do, while that is certainly a more insular crowd, it's not a closed/fixed group as you're implying. That is because the game lets me filter players out that are clearly looking for a carry and as such tension for me is non-existent whereas FF14 expects me to be complacent in carrying ignorant players.

I find that when you remove the agenda (i.e. players sneaking into DF trying to be carried or watching netflix, or in PF who really need more practice in Exdeath, but join a GCO to clear party, etc.) it generally removes the rift between the community. There will always be harassment claims and they absolutely should be handled, but please don't conflate harassment with parsers as they are not directly related.

For WoW, I seen parser harassment and even kick abuse because they removed my sister out of some starter raid using RF, we were both new but her HPS was a bit lower because her being monk healer. thinking parser harassment is an outlier is rofl worthy. Seeing it happens even in FFXIV when they blatantly tell you it violates the tos should show you how the general community will act like with an official public one.

The problem is that you do not have any actual data that suggests one way or the other. You are misinterpreting your emotional bias and limited anecdotal experience as analysis.

The fact they do not allow it is because this very reason. Isn't there some clip with yoshi-P walking off the stage when a parser question was asked again? Him walking off the stage and keep saying no is more then "anecdotal response" Just because you or me or other posters here do not act like the common majority, holds no barring how the common majority will act.

You are citing this example as if it is infallible or beyond reproach. Yoshi has thought many things in the past and changed his mind due to community. Yoshi has also thought certain content forms were acceptable, when the community overwhelmingly demonstrated otherwise.

Yoshi P, as well as SE, is capable of being incorrect on a stance and are capable of changing their viewpoint, no matter how polarizing it may be.

Never seen a need for parser, except in the most hardcore groups. Used for eliminating the weakest link. For the masses, if Diversion is in your rotation and kept on cool down, and still seeing orange now and then, you're fine. Or if MT dies and boss immediately smacks you, you're fine. I find it easy to tell how well I am doing that way.

Sorry but, no ... a thousand no to this. Enmity doesn't tell you anything about how you perform as a DPS.
