    Heaven forbid people have fun in their MMORPG. Ever wonder why the genre was nothing more than a niche, only played by the most masochistic and stereotypical PC gamer? Because those were the types that willingly allowed a game to take over their life.

    The big problem with ffxiv is that the journey is so boring. Everyone just kills raptors. If the journey was anything like what the OP described i wouldnt mind it, but the way it is the journey is not desirable.

    Correct and here we are trying to suggest to Yoship that he focus on that journey instead speeding up the path to 50.

    There are lots of ways to make a journey, and just levelling 1-50 seems the most boring and worst way imo..

    I'm a believer in mobs/npcs adapting to the player level, with harder mobs always being harder, maybe some zones/areas being to hard for your skills/ability's when your new but over time you get more powerful, and gain new attacks and abilitys.
    But that annoying early mob is still a decent fight even if you know you'll win this time.
    You probably need a greater variance in this for a MMO then single player but still..
    (an easy current game to point at here would be Skyrim)

    With that in mind if you give people dungeons/nms/quests/story content and other things and point people at all the zones, some being filled with simpler non aggressive foe's and then harder ones having aggressive ones with more adaptive AI.. u do create that journey if the story telling is done well..

    This also stops areas being noob zones, unused and empty over time if there is a wide range of challenges all over the world.

    allows people of all levels or more abilitys to play togheter as they would hit the mob for damage approprate to there level and the mob them..

    The only down side i see is it takes away some of the OMG I'M 50 I AM SO POWERFUL DIE LV1 RAT RAA... for some people.

    Is 271k exp in under 50min. good enough proof? This party took a rank 40 glad to rank 50 in alittle over 3hours. And 40-50 is half the total EXP from 1-50. R30-40 can be done with a PL doing add/drop on raptors netting around 150k/hour exp.

    And to be clear I am 100% in favor of slowing down the grind I like the idea that a job from 1-50 takes a month in good parties or 2-3months solo. Bring back the FFXI party style just get rid of the link system. Or tone it down so you can only claim a set number of mobs at once say 3 max at once.

    Also another way to help eliminate PL'ing is set a greater EXP penalty for having high lvl in party make the range for desired parties a 2 lvl gap max. This doesn't work well right now with such small sub numbers on all servers but if 2.0 is really the holy grail patch then there should be plenty of ppl to make parties with a max 2lvl gap, heck we could probably do this now if we had any type of normal party search system.
