While I'm in the same boat as you, I'm in that boat precisely because the cap exists in the first place. Despite having all jobs at 70, and most jobs at 60 as far back as Midas tier, it takes nearly the whole tier to save up enough Tomestones to gear up 2 non-compatible jobs. And don't get me started on Savage/hunting and the weekly 24-man drop for upgrades. So... I don't bother with Tomestones once I have my job geared. I just ignore the other 14 jobs (since my job, DRG, doesn't share with anything on left side).

Even if the weekly cap was abolished, there would still be an upper limit in place for each tier. You would, therefore, not have to play 24/7 to keep up - the difference is you could actually play as much or as little as you wanted on your own time, instead of constantly being forced to work on Square's schedule.

Further, the weekly cap hurts people that are coming back from breaks or that may wish to take a break towards the start of a cycle for whatever reason. They have no options of catching/keeping up, because that weekly cap doesn't roll over. Something's come up and you can't play for a week (or more)? Tough cookies, enjoy being behind everyone else.

Not that being behind is terribly relevant unless you're trying to raid or something, but it - like several other things - just sits in opposition to Square's reasoning for them being in place.

If you can't find a reason to play the game, don't play it right now. Wait for the new content. Nobody's gonna kill you over a break.
People can pay for 6 months of service in advance. If Square's inability to keep them engaged results in them having nothing to do for extended periods for those 6 months, I think it's fair to expect them to complain. And to start questioning why they're subbing to begin with, discount or no.
