The cost of a subscription for an MMO hasn't changed in 20 years. Do you really think our subscriptions, alone, cover operating costs? But if the subscription cost was raised to really reflect the cost of running an MMO, everybody would freak out. There's a reason nearly every single subscription-based MMO has been $14.99 a month, it's what we expect.

$15 absolutely covers operating costs.

$15/month, with 3 months in between patches amounts to $45/patch...
Practically a new AAA game (pre-ordered through Amazon Prime with the 20% off).
Or a discounted game off the zillion PS Store sales that go on...
Or a metric ton of Steam sales games....


SE has you hook, line, and sinker with the idea that they can pump out each patch, charge you the cost of a brand new game, and then gut that content by placing it on the cash shop for whales to purchase it in addition to their "new game"....

You are seriously overestimating the importance of a glamour item. We get tons of glamour items, emotes, and mounts every patch for free.

This is factually inaccurate. Everything on the Mogstation is developed by a separate team. The only involvement Yoshida has is giving them an idea of what might sell. If the Mogstation were shutdown tomorrow, everything there wouldn't suddenly be put into the game nor would they add additional things afterwards. They'd just stop making it altogether, and relocate the team to another project.

Biggest times for players resubbing this game in between expansions is:
-Content patches
-Seasonal events (100% glamour grabs)

Personally I don't really care about the particular emote in question in this thread, but this is simply a matter of you being content with receiving less for more money.
If this were a telecommunication company (i.e. Comcast) throttling your bandwidth while simultaneously charging you more per month, you'd be up in arms. But yet in this instance, you're completely fine with less and less content being added as part of our routine sub fee.

Which as I added in my previous post, you're paying for another copy of Stormblood every patch for $45/month. Of which the opportunity cost for not resubbing is quite the number of brand new games which haven't been gutted.

My bandwidth is essential to my use of the internet. Items from the Mog Station are not essential to my enjoyment of this game.

I have stayed subbed for all of my 3 years. Even when not playing. Why? The sub does pay for the content I receive in that same time. The server uptime, the patches, the hotfixes, and the new expansion in progress. I don't feel the slightest bit bad about that considering I'm getting more value out of the "$45/3 month" out of FFXIV than I would a single player or even multiplayer title for the same price. Those same games don't always guarantee replayability, and are even full of micro transactions themselves, which could be argued as less of a value. (looking at you EA) FFXIV is an always evolving game. It would make sense to have a continual sub for that. I can't say I've played any other game for 3 years straight (okay maybe skyrim....but I bought that at least 5 times......and dlc..... *shudder*).

Mogstation gear is typically made by a separate team. Each purchase fuels that team. Yes some may think that its part of the enjoyment of the base game and should be included, when in all actuality if the Mogstation died today and the gear in game with it.....you'd still have the game and everything else in it you paid for with your sub. You're not receiving more or less than what you sub for by having separately developed items on mogstation.

As someone myself that has supported a few games through micro transactions (both f2p, p2p, b2p) because I like the dev team and people behind the game itself, there is nothing wrong with adding cosmetic items (and even non-cosmetic i.e. Warframe) at an added price into a virtual store to help with extra costs on their side and yes, even profits, because profits tend to lead to more games or expansions. If a game is not profitable, it tends to not survive the day.

This argument can go all day long...but in the end, support it or don't. You're not being forced to buy the items.

That all being said I hate this emote is 7 dollars, and can patiently wait for it to be on sale.
