What are the most common reasons people don't dps?

I will do my best when i see the other party member do their best. Since dungeons ppl do w/e they want i will do it too. All these dont count on a raid enviroment unless i talk with the other healer and can just allways tell him/her to dps to the heart content and i just heal and dps on the spot.

this, i have a feeling some people is getting instant "triggered" because of my post especially this sentence.

if i see my party smooth rolling enemies left and right, i can just sit back and relax

when i said sit back and relax, i dont mean 100% leaving my finger on heal 1 2 and 3 button, i STILL help dps albeit a minor one like casting instant dps skill (dot) or throwing lord card if i happen to get one.

and considering DG in ff14 mostly just follow the road and avoid red circle stuff, its pretty much just run of the mill DG run. your way to get out of this boring DG run is maybe to finish it as fast as you can, in my case i just try to communicate with the party to help ease off the boredom.

I doubt that while fighting that the rest of the party has time to respond to you because they have to press their rotation and movement. Yes, you would definitly spice things up if you start chatting, while the others work their ass up for you

Between fights I respond to the chat often. During the fight I chat only if I'm worried or angry at something and these are really short sentences, because I have to play my job right.

But it is nice to hear that you make some effort for new players

Lol. If u are a DD and wanna heal by all means go for it and chat, i dont know how well u can heal a party as a DD but try it.

Red Mage says hello. I've done it when a healer disconnected or died in stuff where I had Vercure but not Verraise. They're not awesome healers, but you'd be surprised just how much content a RDM can heal through if the group isn't taking much avoidable damage. Had a bitchy healer in one levelling roulette group deliberately get locked out of a boss to "teach us a lesson", although when I healed it just fine on RDM the lesson we learned was "we don't need you." They were promptly kicked and we just kept going with three of us until a replacement came in.

Hell, I've healed bosses as PLD on a healer disconnect. Once you get the trait for half MP Clemency, you can put out enough healing for a lot of bosses in 4 person content (especially if you've got Refresh or Mana Shift assistance).

Both cases are just someone using their abilities to try and help the group clear the content. Which is exactly the same logic that says a healer who isn't busy healing should be contributing DPS. Everyone should do what they can to help the group with the tools they have available.

Why would I willingly let content go on longer than it has to (which, ironically, tends to mean the need for more healing), when there are DPS spells on the bar and plenty of opportunity-windows to use them? Hell, half the time (as a WHM) I can make my own opportunities thanks to Holy, so I do. All the time. Tank running off for that tri-pull? Ok, great, QC Holy, AoE DoT the suckers before waiting to see just how tanky the tank is before I make my next move. Letting the tank grab everything and then allowing yourself to be reduced into a CureII bot is both inefficient for the group AND your own MP bar. The enemies live longer, you spam more heals, on the circle goes.

This isn't saying Healers should be competing with the actual DPS, just that any kind of additional contribution is effective for everyone, the Healer more-so.

You do understand that if this attitude was shared by the majority of the playerbase pug content would just become a wipefest, right?

Stop acting like a petulant child and just do your job. It isn't rocket science. You actually stand to gain more from dpsing as a healer in a bad group than you do in a good one anyways. If the dps in your group is steamrolling enemies your own contribution feels more like a drop in a pond but when you have people who don't know want they're doing your Holy spam could easily be more than anyone else's contribution.

This attitude is the kind of thing I just can't deal with. Stop being lazy.

im a bit late to this party :O im a level 46 white mage, leveled completely through fates and palace of the dead, because when i try to do dungeons (this happens every time) i try to keep up as the tank pulls every mob to each boss, normally dying before i can get in range to heal them, and when i can get in range they take like two seconds to die, so even doing my best i just cant seem to function as a healer well enough to do dps

im doing my job, im healing. DPS for a healer should be the last thing as it is a Raise coming from a smn or cure coming from a rdm. Sure they happen and is appreciated but thats it, is not mandatory.

If the tank's darting off ahead and goes out of range and dies, that's totally on them, not you, especially in low level content where they shouldn't be doing wall to wall pulls anyway. I've noticed they mostly do it in Toto-Rak and Dzemael Darkhold.
