I had a bit of an off-run in Kugane Castle last night. It was almost 2AM and I had spent the last several hours doing Kojin quests, leveling my SMN, and helping a FC member get through a couple dungeons, but I haven't maxed out on Creation tomes yet this week so I figured I'd try to squeeze in a quick Expert Roulette as RDM. The run itself actually wasn't awful, really. The tank took small pulls, which was fine because things were dying pretty fast still. Admittedly, I could have been a bit less stingy with my RDM black/white mana usage as I tend to feel uncomfortable squandering it on trash mobs with the exception of using E. Moulinet on 4+ mobs or the single-target enchanted melee combo on bigger enemies with lots of HP (like the colossus enemies near the end of Ala Mhigo), and Kugane Castle has few individual pulls that fall under those categories. But in any case, mobs are going down reasonably fast, first boss goes down pretty easily though the SAM died once, and despite a brief targeting snafu I had the second boss went down before the second group of adds appeared.

We get to the last group of mobs, and I figure A.) Yojimbo goes down faster than a sack of bricks and B.) it's easy enough to build up the limit gauge fighting him anyway, so I decide to burn through the mob with a limit break. SAM starts getting a bit snippy with me in the chat as we start up the boss, to the confusion of the tank. Rather than start an argument trying to justify myself and drag things down, I just keep quiet and continue to tear into the boss. Yojimbo dies right after the second payday phase, nice and easy. I type in 'gg' as I usually do at the end of a run, SAM still apparently salty about the whole thing. Left the duty with a comm, presumably from the tank. Yes, I know I wasn't at the top of my game for that one, and maybe using the lb at that particular juncture was slightly questionable (That and the fact that while I'd consider myself fairly decent as RDM I know I'm still pretty inexperienced with the game as a whole). But I still feel like that SAM could have been much more constructive in her criticisms than a few passive-aggressive lines in chat. It left a bit of a bad taste to end my night with.

I'm new to tanking and I've been trying to work up my courage by doing command missions. Today I decided I'd try real people instead of AI and queued up for guildhests (definitely learning content, right?)

On 2 runs I had people who kept running ahead of me grabbing things. Once it was a mentor, the next time it wasn't but the guy just kept pushing on. Then he told me to "git gud".

I'm trying to "git gud", but it'd be a lot easier if people like that didn't push tanks doing GUILDHESTS.

The SAM's an idiot. Picking up the gold coins during the final boss recharges the LB meter anyway. Admittedly, you can LB2 after the first set of coins and LB1 again after the second. If you caster/ranged LB on the mobs before boss, you'll have LB2 available after the second coin phase anyway, and there's not much of a fundamental difference considering the boss is typically already at 20-10% after the second phase.

Part of it is SE's fault for making it too easy, they just want to get in and get out, the mentor was prob doing that to get it done as fast as possible for mentor roulette. If DPS could die in 1 hit doing that, they wouldn't be doing it, but instead DPS pretty much can take quite a beating acting as a tank.

When did you LB? Since you are a caster, just say something when the second boss dies "Full pull and I will use caster lb" Using a LB like that is way more valuable then a melee on boss.

You develope a cold heart after tanking many runs (other MMOs incl). Let DPS die if they pull more than you can handle.

In my case it isn't particularly helpful, but I very much appreciate you trying to help . I know how to tank in MMO's (as in I know how hate works, that position matters, etc....).
I just needed practice actually doing it in this game, and mostly building confidence and learning not to panic.

In my last leveling roulette the healer only used cure, nothing else. Well, maybe once he used esuna, but that's all, he was spamming cure. What's wrong with these kind of healers? He wasn't new to the game, and he's lvl 36. It can be really boring to spam cure for 20 minutes... So why?

Leveling Monk in Qarn, and got a tank who decided it was their job to go after all the mythril verges... while I was trying to attack the boss which of course followed the tank around the room. Never mind positionals, I was lucky to be landing hits at all as I chased after it. :{
