Back to lack of direct pvp though, RW was disappointing purely because it offered so much yet delivered so little

The saving grace for any team without healers, because you are so disadvantaged at player combat that showing up at all usually just ends the misery quicker and hands whatever team you end up feeding the game. With exceedingly rare exceptions of course.
I'm not gonna derail the topic with another rant on my pet peeve here, no worries, I'm just noting that certain tuning decisions might make people ill inclined to bother with actual player interaction and develop preferences for less player interaction.

Another factor to consider is: Feast already provides direct PvP. They might consider other PvP modes with a strong direct player combat focus redundant - They didn't just remove slaughter, they also removed Wolves Den after all (Did people even notice?). It's quite possible they simply want to funnel you into Feast if you just want to fight players and keep the other modes for different preferences. Doubly so since Feast seems to be the mode they care about the most (for better or worse).

They removed wolves den - but Feasting Grounds remained and Lichenweed was added. Wolves Den was largely made redundant with the newer feast maps, in fact we still refer to feast maps as Wolves Den in general because we didn't really lose much.

Slaughter on the other hand was a different scenario entirely. In terms of proper PvP in what felt like a relatively low pressure environment - that was as good as it gets. Feast is not a good entry point for people wanting to try PvP - I know it doesn't feel like it to us; but it's quite a serious game mode.

I considered that as I responded, but I opted to just keep it inside.

I will be honest 4 man feast and fold intimidated me. I don't even know why but it was just intimidating. I think part of it is playing with randoms and lack of confidence in my skills. I did play 4v4 ranked team during season 4 but it was hard to get all 4 of us on at the same time and we were going up against platinum players (3 person team) who would pick up 1 random person. For a fresh team still bronze going up against a platinum team was just.... well not fun. So I stuck with Frontlines to boost my skills and confidence which it did. But when Season 5 came out I was less inclined to participate because I prefer astro and I heard it was not as strong. I am sure I would survive in feast but there hasn't been any real reason to do it as I honestly don't care about glamour.

But what was appealing about Frontlines in 2.x gear progression and even 3.x is I enjoyed it for the group play. I would group up with friends and we would have me and my gf somedays to having a full group of 8 and even running 2 teams (we would end up head to head). This is what was appealing to me.

I remember once we had a ninja from another server end up harrassing us until she joined us in our base stealing. She was blown away a group of 8 people held off a full alliance at their base. We won the match off of kills. She thought we played cat and mouse but when she got 13 kills at the end of the match with 1 death she was sold.

With the 4.0 release the semblance of pvp has significantly diminshed. People may call it Nostalgia but I was not one of the ones on her complaining. I would get CC locked but I still enjoyed it and I wish there was something more than Carbon Copy Glamour items to actually go for (Garo and other sets looked unique). Making it accessible from 30 on for one queue is actually making it less appealing to. It was my end game in 3.0 and will be my end game in 4.0 but people leveling are just using it as a means to an end to get the PvE end game which is counter productive to the PvP community.

Feast 8v8 was very popular once people started to realize in season 1 how bad ranked was. A lot of people did it to get their fenrir pup and mount, since then you had a decent balance of killing and not needing to be perfect at your role to participate. The whole point of 8v8 was to be a low pressure training mode/fun mode.

Wolfs den was crap. I mean who designs a pvp mode with no respawns? You could lose the game in 30 seconds because the other team focused your healer down, and that was it. It died because it was not fun at all, even though it was much more survivable than Feast; I think the devs looked at FFXI ballista (which ironically had level 30 caps in some of them too) ad just threw the level cap in.

The lack of rewards in PVP make it a grand waste of time rather quickly. For a mode that usually has the slowest queues in the same you'd think SE would provide more incentive to join.

    I can tell you: WoW.

Their Arenas are just that. And they based the majority of their so called competitive PvP on that to boot. Considering how much they looked at WoW during the rebuilding of FFXIV and how successful WoW made it look, I'm inclined to think that was their inspiration, with Morale being an attempt to mimic Resilience.

While its nice to get fast ques the most fun i had in XIV pvp was when people considered it to be dead, because when it was "dead" you only encountered players that really did it for pvp and not for shinies. Before Feast got added i was playing with and against players who you can find in Feast top100 list and that if anything was the best learning experience/training you could get, to get better you need to play against even better players than yourself.

I did had 1k matches under my belt when ARR ended but it was that period in early/mid HW when i truly learned to play PvP thanks to those better opponents who rekt and teabagged me really hard, so i want to say thanks to those guys/gals for making me better specially guys like Darkfalz and co

I hate to say this but as long as pvp stays as it is now i have absolutely no interest for it, if 5.0 adds the gameplay of HW back then i will jump back instantly otherwise nah no thanks.

While I agree it's nice to play with more dedicated players who are actually interested in PVP because it's more fun but right now there just isn't anyone doing Feast at all and it would be a nice boost even if it's just so people can finish off the achievements and get the mounts and other things like that. I mean right now once a new PVP mode comes out the ones before it just die off so it would be nice to have something to at least keep them going.
