This Heavensturn would have actually been a good opportunity to give us a full set of armour besides just the helmet again wiith the inclusion of Stormblood/Kugane in the game. Plus having a mini game in the event that's based on the yearly animal theme would be alot nicer to have than just "Mochi Pound and Smash" again... Oh, and a new dog themed mount would've been better to add, too of instead just the statue and helmet. Not that I'm complaining about the staute. Its cute and would have been nice to have other multiple types with different dogs, too.

I enjoy this event because you can see who doesn't know what focus target is as they get smooshed into mochi over and over

I enjoy the event because it's not some annoying daily grind. A lighter, more temporary change of pace that still keeps me in the game.

On the other hand, I am kinda hoping that next year will have some outrageously difficult challenge to it just so enough of the people whining about it this year would get a response of "we thought you didn't like it last year, so suck it up losers, because this is what you asked for".

I'd rather have that than a "event" that takes me 5 minutes and consists of more cutscene than me actually doing something.

As others have pointed out, I'd rather have less events that last me a while (more than run 1 Fate and done) than an event every couple weeks that's so unremarkable that I won't know what it was about a week after. Quality over quantity.

At least it's slightly different each year, unlike in other MMOs where it's the exact same event EVERY year. No change in dialogue what so ever, no change in rewards, nothing. XIV so far is the only MMO that I've played that actually changes things up for each and every event, even if it's just a line or two.

Less variety. Not a good thing, in my opinion.
They could design better reward (who will truly wear those helmets?) and give people something to do between patches. They could give us more rewards like instead of one bear we could farm for more. Also less but bigger events could mean better games too. Instead of just making it one fate you could have lots of interesting mini games. Yes those will get stale somewhere too but not as fast as one fate. Right now they are nothing more than simply: Go there, talk, watch a long cutscene and then do that one fate and get back. Sometimes you will be able to farm more items but that just means a handful of more fates..there is nothing fun it that for me..

In my view events could be used to give us something to do between patches but they are done so fast most of the time with barely any rewards that you are done in minutes..letting the events run for a longer time with more stuff to grind for could give us something to do and yet the main attractions could still be done in a reasonable time. (Kinda like the yokai or Garo event but with less of a grind and especially not fates..)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

The helmets are a bit special as they don't mesh well with a lot of outfits.
Just scrap the helmet and give us what is on top, kinda like this.

I think your issue is that the event itself doesn't have much to do rather than the fact that there are too many events... I don't think the fact that we have a lot of events is a correlation to the reward we get, because these rewards are surely planned ahead of time. I think the only thing I can agree on is that the helmets aren't the best idea, but what can they give us otherwise? I'd rather a different reward than getting rid of the event altogether to add a reward to a different event.

While it is true the events are very lacking and not at all exciting like they used to be, but better then getting nothing is how i look at it.
I could also agree that some F2P games have better events as it stands.

I just did the event for the first time, and I agree it’s underwhelming - but I think it would have been better without the attempted storyline and just have been “hey guys, we’re giving out dog hats! Go join the mochi-pounding activity to earn it!”

Also strange - that they point out “Eorzea celebrates Heavensturn by ________, but in the East we celebrate it like this”... and yet we only actually get to see their celebration and not our local one? I realise they probably wouldn’t make a second simultaneous event, but I’d be interested to see it and any lore that goes with it.
