Wouldn't double-sided weapons, whether in the likeness of Serge's or Zidane's, make more sense as another class's primary arms at this point?

I like Serge’s weapon, and I agree that it would be better as another class’s primary weapon, what class would that be I am not sure. I thought before that it could have been an evolved form of lance/spear for the DRG but I’m sure that’s not happening. I do hope that kind of weapon gets into ff14 though.

"That's a fine accomplishment lad. Young and lusty as you are, no doubt you'll achieve much and more in the years to come. I look forward to hearin' all your deeds." - Jonathas, Master of the Rolls, Old Gridania

Animations will differentiate the class more than a weapon type will.
Warrior works just as well with two handed hammers as it would axes with the way it swings, but there's still likely to be a hammer swinging maniac at some point in the future.
On the other hand, relatively few of the rogue/Ninja animations can currently handle a swallow blade or other double-sided weapon. Which was my point here.
More importantly, though, while these animations could be revised easily enough, doing so and allowing for this distinct weapon type on rogues/ninja begs the question of what the Armory concept ought to be.
Alas, they are also the same people who figured it'd be easier to redo the art assets for almost every primal CNJ/THM weapon than to rework the code to allow for 1h weapons to be reglamoured to 2h and vice versa.
