more random logic otw... u,uFFIV Rosa was a white mage that used a bow and arrow. FFII Maria is best suited for a black mage role and starts with a bow. FF Tactics Advance and FFTA2 the archer was an enfeebling job capable of moves such as blinding, charming and immobilizing the target as well as other abilities. Only in some FF games has it been a major DD.
When I list what an Archer is not, I'm talking about FFXIV's Archer...
Who cares?
If the jenuine ranged DD job for an archer is not forthcoming, then I'll be playing whatever FOTM job there will be, while waiting for a musketeer/ranger. And if that won't happen, I'll take my wallet and go somewhere else. There is plenty of fish out there.
One thing is for sure. I will not play a freakin' support job just because SE decided to radically change its job description 12 months after I bought their piece of shit game.
yonnji is a shit name too and u still have it.

New team, new game. At launch THM was the best healer, now it's CNJ. Don't think just because something is the way it is during an incomplete free period that it won't change drastically by the time the game is pay to play and more complete. They even did a poll when the teams changed asking how players would feel if they drastically changed the gameplay and other elements and most voters (I think I remember reading 89% but I could be wrong it was back in the spring) said that they would approve such a decision. If anyone was of the majority in that poll they shouldn't be complaining about any major gameplay changes being introduced now and in the future but rather embracing them as a new mechanic to try out.
And for the record, ARC wasn't even a strong DD at the beginning of the game. It was only strong just before Darkhold was released until about 1.18. That was a balancing issue from the start. ARC/BRD is still going to be a spike damage job if you take the time to read the new class and job descriptions:
That says to me that they can primarily be a DD, switching to BRD only when MP/HP is running low for fodder mobs. At a boss they can toss on the buffs at start while tank gets hate, do their large amount of spike damage and then reapply buffs while waiting for spike damage ability recast timers. Seems pretty solid to me.They are capable of generating large amounts of damage in brief spans of time, but are less effective the longer a battle drags on.

gld->pld
mrd->war
pug->mnk
lnc->rdg
arc->???
what does your brain suggest?
suppose SE still had to make any announcement do you really would think brd is the most natural job evolution?
let's keep going
why does the drastic change only applies to one class?
why isn't pug going to be a pup?
why isn't gld going to be thf?
because it doesn't make any sense just as arc->brd would never ever sound as natural as arc->rng... no matter what. It's so obvious I get blind every time I type it.
You said arc isn't top DD and I agree for it's clear enough. Still look at its abilities... is there something that suggest you it should cover any another role beside DD?
So is archer below other DDs such as mrd, lnc, pug because there are still things to balance but they just want to use this class to force brd introduction? Or was that intentional, to give it only DD/eva/enmity- actions as it should be one hell of DD but they were going to change it to a support job anyway?
Occam razor's principle should help you with this last question

I guess i could see ARC > THF kinda like RobinHood
Give us a dagger in off hand to auto att with , then trickatt/snkatt stackd with some /ra WS would solve some of the gimp dmg they currently doing. Hell maybe treasure hunter would help with the drop rate with Ifrit qq
My whole view of this is not from playing other game some of the ppl here have been pointing too where they seen a brd with a bow, Iam talking that this is Final fantasy only other mmo i played was FFXI , and brd did not use a BOW, and from that view i feel that this change was a kick in the NutZ

I know I'm late but this is completely false pre 1.19 archer was the most powerful DD in the game period. Fully buffed 3 arrow light shot on the top of a BR stack would easily do 1.3k per arrow. The job was pure DD no buts about it, of course the problem was that pre 1.19 LNC/MRD did terrible damage. Now 1.19 MRD is best damn DD in game with high damage output, high HP, high defense, and etc. Archer is just pure shit to the point that 99% of archers dropped the job on Figaro.
And for the record, ARC wasn't even a strong DD at the beginning of the game. It was only strong just before Darkhold was released until about 1.18. That was a balancing issue from the start. I really hope that 1.20 brings all the jobs back into balance because right now its pretty messed up with OP MRD/LNC.
My opinion on this is that Brd is going to do the same damage as archer in 1.19 which we all know is terrible. I just don't see the job getting melee stats to do good solid DPS/Spike damage. The other factor depends on how long the buffs last. If it takes the FFXI path and the songs last a good minute or so then you won't have to do shoot anything. I want to try to be optimistic but this is SE we are talking about and they always seem to find a way to screw it up.
