Viera as the next new race~ Show your support

This should apply to the Viera as well, since the Ivalice in XIV and Ivalice in Tactics Advance and XII are not the same (different lore and legends. Lupin currently have the advantage of already existing).

Not confirmed that there is no connection between the two Ivalice (or if it has been I've not yet read it). They seem to actually have quite a few parallels both in the rendering of the bangaa and seeq and their lore which means that if they arrive there will likely be parallels in the Viera as well. Lupin may exist in the world of FFXIV but, as a whole, the race lore is as deep as cardboard. Flesh that out, build on that, make them popular. This thread isn't 156 pages long for no reason. Lupin just done have that kind of pull, they haven't been around long enough to get a following like that. Where's the character everyone thought was so neat it stuck with them? Where's the Fran of Lupins?

Honestly you can just use the miqote helmets with some extra room in the front for the muzzle if applicable. It's not difficult.

These are the folks that won't give us a booty slider because of texture stretching. You really think they'll do muzzle redesigns on helmets?

Also why anything but Viera? Is it their design you don't like? Is it the previous lore? Because if it's just 'don't bring things from other games' that ship sailed. We've got numerous things from other FF titles that have been remixed for FFXIV already (including nearly all the current races being remixes from FFXI). Or is it that you don't like Viera fans? Apologies I'm just genuinely curious about why you'd be okay with anything but the second most popular FF race (if only we could play a Moogle).

Redesigning feet gear for Viera isn't that difficult honestly. All they have to do is just give them really high heels.

Gear already has some amount of morphability as you all show when posting game pictures. The armor looks very different on a roegadyn and lalafel. I think if it's just stretching and not a lot of extra polygons then armor can change cost effectively.

In the case of lupin, carnivora (cats, dogs, foxes) are digitigrade so the opposite of what I said applies. They do not wear heels and it is better to leave feet bare except the toes maybe, where their heel/ankle should be becomes part of their leg. That or they just do what they did with miqote.

As for viera lore it has common themes. Silver white hair is sacred, feet are strange compared to humes, in tune with the spirit world, their homes are hidden with magic.

It is so easy to say "their spirit home was invisible but now they are threatened", it's 100% lore appropriate. They could even be here now but you cant see their town because of ancient magic.

A: Maehiro: To be absolutely clear, there is no direct connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice or even FFXI’s Vana’diel. They are not the same world in different dimensions or time—they are their own separate worlds. However, there are certain connections to people or objects that appear in these other worlds that figure into the story of FFXIV as it has been conceived and is being told.

From what we've seen so far in the Ivalice story in FFXIV, it's very clear that this Ivalice is not the same as the one from XII and Tactics (especially as the timeline is flipped).

Thank you for pointing that out! It actually makes me glad as it gives them even more opportunity to add Viera since they'd be able to put their own spin on them easier. Also, we could possibly get some of the other races as beast tribes in upcoming content (I'd do missions for the bangaa wouldn't you?) But the very next line admits there is connections between people and objects which is where things have a lot more leeway than I think you're giving them credit for. Such as shenanigans with a certain powerful magic book. It'd be cheap of them to do that but not out of the realm of possibility.

Also it doesn't invalidate my other point that before we champion the cause of the Lupin there needs to be more depth to them, there needs to be a reason for people to play them. Why do you want to see the Lupin? What makes them appealing to you? Is it only aesthetic? I realize most folks championing the Viera are doing it for looks but not all of us are. Do I want a strong but still pretty warrior woman, yes I do. But I also want them because of that connection to other FF games I've played. Lets face it, having a deep well of previous franchise titles is a strength for FFXIV, not a weakness. Being able to give fans something they've already got a connection to is a selling point. Being able to fight Bahamut again and running around in Magitek Armor...yeah, it's nostalgia. So why not Viera now? Get it out of the way and there goes the biggest hurdle to introducing totally new races.

I feel the connection thing is mostly just for references. Something like Krile and Xande, for instance.

As for why I want Lupin to be playable... one big reason is that I'm tired of "cute" races (and I'm kinda worried Viera may suffer this). Another reason being I just want to see something that isn't yet another 90-95% human with some animal bits here and there (at least the Lupin have a wolf head and the one piece of official art for them is adorable). Lore and legends I don't particularly care for at this point in time, though I wouldn't be surprised if Kelger (FFV) is mentioned as a legendary warrior of sorts.

The heck people, SE could just release a Lupin mask and people wanting to be one can just cosplay one, no need to make it a race. Unless a lot of furry loving people keep asking for one that doesn't have human features but I still see Viera more possible than Lupin atm... seriously, a mask. :P

Funny no one mentions all the work needed for facial animations, emotes, character interactions, ect... for a race that as of now have none. Lupin, like all the less human races currently in game, have none of these. While many can argue that our player created characters are not incredibly expressive (I feel they do fine personally), the more nuanced animations are not only natural and useful in many quest we have interactions with npc's, but also help immerse the player in the story.

I don't think beastmen like Lupin will be added as a playable race. I know I would never play as a beastmen. I'm completely uninterested in beastmen being a playable race, but I'm not particularly opposed to their addition later on in the future, either. I still don't think it'd happen, and I don't care either way. There's something I've been wondering though; how would hairstyles work for the Lupin? I think it'd look kind of silly. In any case, I'll be happy as long as they add viera.
