Had a rather disappointing run of Bardam's Mettle last night on SCH. The paladin barely seemed to know how to play, doing stuff like popping rampart as the last mob in a pack was about to die, random clemencies, and appearing to just auto-attack most of the time. I had to remind them that flash was a thing after myself and the SMN tanked a fair amount of the monsters, and they rarely ever bothered to dodge AoEs. The DRG was using a level 54 spear in a level 65 dungeon. The SMN seemed content to ignore any and all mechanics, and I had to pick them up off the floor a few times.

Some people ask why I DPS on healer. My response? Because SOMEONE has to...

When you go to pop Brotherhood but the BRD might as well be standing on the moon... I guess I won't be using Forbidden Chakra more than once on this boss, huh

    So good and bad recently:

I got put into Halatali, on my white mage, and was expecting the run to go smooth because everyone seemed to be experienced players.

Then I saw the summoner- refusing to use any pet/summon, only casting ruin and miasma, and spam healing psychic on the tank every time his health dropped anything less than 99%.
I told them to stop healing the tank please and then they went to only using ruin and doing nothing. I dont understand why it's always summoners I have problems in dungeons with.

I also did the King Moogle Mog fight a lot and managed to get my astro weapon! All the parties were nice and actually talked a bit.

Gods, reading this really hurts my WHM feelings. What a complete a-hole.
If the tank is somewhat slow, I encourage them to pull some more or faster if they feel up to it. If they're unsure about it, I assure them that I can handle it even should a mob chew on someone else. Healers can easily smooth out mistakes in low lvl dungeons, so why not make good use of it and give people the chance to learn without risking backlash?

In my eyes, it's better to have crap DPS for a little bit than have a healer who has to struggle to get my health back up (or worse, let me die to focus on the more important tank). I hate BLMs who just go "nope! I'm a turret and turrets don't move!" Ideally, yeah I'd like to do that, but I'm not going to.

So, I'm sorry you got that crappy BLM
Haha I'm always super annoyed myself when I have to constantly dance around a mob pack because their aoes are all over the place and there just isn't a safe spot for my holy spam. Sometimes I just decide to eat a bit of dmg and heal me if I drop too low.
I'm okay with turrets being turrets as long as they only eat a reasonable amount of dmg. I have to move often enough to put a regen on the BLM, assize heals him aswell and tetra is often enough free to use on someone else than the tank and sometime throughout the fight, Med2 is up aswell. So they can take a fair amount of dmg without me having to waste extra GCDs on spot-healing them.
But it's usually obvious from the start wether he is the lazy kind of BLM (no regen from me, move your butt, mate!) or the type of player who knows that he's taking extra dmg and knows when it's getting too much.
I'm kind of tempted to create a BLM specific raise macro. Something along the lines of "You are NOT a turret. You actually CAN move. Do it next time".

That line really got me. :'D
I rarely play dps, so I rarely have these stereotypical couples. But when I do the healer is always a little princess who has only eyes for her tank and chews out anyone who dares to take any dmg at all and the tank playing the chivalrous knight in shining armor (bonus points if they're PLD & WHM) and valiantly defends his little princess from the bad, salty people who dare to point something out.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for ages now. It kinda bothers me when ranged stay so far away that my AST’s heals just don’t reach them no matter how I position myself—unless I want to miss another PT member in doing so.

Nowadays I “main” RDM but I’ve spent plenty of time on BRD and MCH, and I’ve always made the effort (what little is required) to stay within range of my healers and other fellow DPS. For buffs, for heals, etc. Plus, there are very few cases where I’d want to stay at max range anyway, so why not stay close to the PT? If I see Earthly Star, Sacred Soil, etc. down, you can bet I’m standing in it. For some jobs, like BLM, I understand there’re some exceptions, but I had a friend who ended up playing RDM often and for the life of me (and her) I usually couldn’t reach her on my AST unless I went out of my way to run halfway across the room, specifically for her.

During a Skalla run a few nights ago I ran into a DRG that’s probably been through a similar experience, since he only tethered to the DRK despite the fact that I, on RDM, was always within his range. My husband’s spent a lot of time on DRG and this was never a problem for us when I was on any of my ranged jobs, but I can understand where the frustration and reluctance stems from with others you don’t trust/know.

    You.
    I like you.
Running after rdps who made it their life goal to stay out of heal range has been a pet peeve of mine in pretty much every MMO.
BRDs and all kinds of missile-flinging classes in general are escpecially guilty of this since they can usually run a marathon while hammering their skills.
And where do they run to? Not into Asylum, that's fore sure.

I don't blame you one bit. I'm not quite sure what about, "I'm new here." or "My first time tanking this one." says go ahead and play like a complete douchebag. It seems to happen a lot, especially if the tank is new and polite. It makes me believe for every tank I've come across that's a jerk, there was that one group out there that made them that way.

Hopefully, the crappy experience doesn't discourage you from tanking. Sometimes those early dungeons can be the absolute worst because some players will go in there over-geared and not allow traditional tanking because they feel it is slower. As a WHM main, it is sickening to me to hear about this kind of play coming from another WHM.

Ahah! Please do! The one I have on my AST says "Good news, everyone! I've discovered a way to bring (target) back from the dead, and it's a suppository!" never fails to get a laugh.

Happened to me last night in World of Darkness. Most of my party stayed reasonably close, except one freaken RDM who kept running to the opposite side of the arena. S/he was out of range of my heals so eventually I ran close enough to be able to use Rescue and yank them back towards our group. First time I've ever done that, and it was so satisfying. I need to remember to do it in dungeons when tanks get just a liiiittle bit pull-happy even after being told to ease up a smidge. No one wants a tank leash lol

I had a really cute experience last night. I was in Sohm Al on samurai for leveling roulette, and we had a scholar. We wiped once, and they said that they felt like they couldn't heal anything on scholar compared to astrologian.

I main scholar, so I offered to help. I asked about sacred soil and indomitability, when they said "I never have aetherflow stacks."

I asked, "Do you use aetherflow? You get 3 stacks every time."

Cue the healer going nuts. "OH MY GOSH, I THOUGHT IT JUST GAVE YOU BACK MP!" "This is a game changer!" "My mind is blown!" "I thought aetherflow stacks just randomly procced!"

They healed beautifully through the rest of the dungeon.

Bonus: Halfway through they exclaimed, "AHH, IS THIS HOW SUMMONER IS PLAYED TOO?!"
