Thoughts From Ex-Balmung Players?

A FC mate cannot stop complaining about moving off Balmung, and randomly rants about Balmung was the perfect server. To this day he will not tell us as to why he left, though my guess he thought the server would unlock after 90 days so it would be a temporary thing, and did it for the incentives.

This just falls under the common case of, "I don't realize what I had until it's gone" sort of thing.

Just a curious question, but for those who regret moving from Balmung, would you move back knowing you'll have queue issues on patch days or regular days (I don't know if it's a daily issue) and being booted mid-play because of congestion?

Just think of how many people will instantly transfer back to Balmung the moment it's unlocked...

I would. I would also not buy an expansion again until a month after release to avoid all the headaches.

That is just my guess.

Most of the people lost during release when we had the most ridiculous queue times, and of course Balmung being Balmung, it was a gamble whether you'd even stay connected for the 3 hours you were waiting to get in. People were leaving in droves until the hard auto kick was established.

I left for personal reasons and because I got sick of seeing roleplaying literally everywhere.

I've yet to see it ever since I moved, and I'm glad for that.

(I have nothing against roleplayers I just got tired of seeing RP everywhere I went, not my cup of tea and all that.)

I left after the server move, and mostly due to it. The game became almost unplayable for me, as my ping skyrocketed. I'm from EU and was on Balmung since January 2014 until May 2017. I do miss playing with some friends who are still there, but I choose to actually be able to play the game, rather than just pay a monthly sub to RP only (as that was basically the only thing that I could do after the move). I left with a friend who also thought similarly and we played the game together all of the time, so that worked out in the end. I hope some friends may soon follow as Balmung isn't the best place to be RP wise for EU people due to all of the events starting at midnight our time, and I found some neat roleplayers here on Lich.

Do I miss Balmung? I would lie if I said I didn't miss some things. I do have many good memories of it, but In the final few months I got annoyed with it and the consequences of the server move solidified my decision to change server. I didn't even wait for the free transfers and transfer benefits. I paid for the transfer and established myself on Lich before Stormblood dropped and then enjoyed the expansion with new friends.
One of the things I miss the most is seeing RP everywhere I go. This is a smaller server RP wise and it's mostly events that are public. Walk-up RP and random RP in the world is extremely rare. But It's fine, I kinda like this now. I adapted and moved on.

You may also want to widen the range and ask roleplayers who created their toons on Gilgamesh when ARR launched instead of Balmung because they didn't want to compete against established players on a Legacy server.

I thought about that, but RP hasn't been the only reason why people flock to Balmung. You have players coming for friends, for cheaper prices (side effect of high-pop servers), a better gameplay experience that comes from the level of activity created by high-pop servers, or because they simply have nothing left on their current server.

Also, thank you all to those who have responded and are responding because I believe that this sort of information is something that devs can make better use of than countless "petitions" that won't ever hold water. As for the Balmung residents giving the same "my friend" story, if you could get them to post here so that those stories hold a little more weight, that'd be much appreciated!
