Has anyone been banned for using Perform yet?

SE's reasons aside, they're shooting themselves in the foot with this. Perform could be so much more than it is.

I will say it disappointed me greatly to know we'll never get a FFXIV version of Weatherstock.

the problem is not everyone who likes to play music and would have fun with this feature is also a composer. and since you must not play any music wich is not your own original work you are limited to the FF14 songs, wich means this feature basically does not exist for the majority of people who are even intereseted in it. so why should anyone care if they remove it?

there is no difference between "i must not use this feature for the songs i want to play" and "this feature does not exist".

What if someone is just playing it for themselves but another person records it? Or if someone reports another gamer for playing certain songs? As far as I understood it you are not allowed to play them at all, so its a reportable issue..heck there is even one person in that reddit thread that asked if they can report people because they dislike certain songs..so yes this feature and its restrictions can become quite messy if there are petty people in the game or if you are recorded without you knowing it.

So I agree with Tint. Why take the time to create such a system (and they want to do more with it later too) if there could be a lot of stress involved for the players itself.

You can play whatever you want in game, you just can't record and upload it.

To loosely quote one of the devs of FFXV before the launch of the game, when asked if they could put in old FF music to listen to in the in-game car: "we own that music, and that sounds like a good idea, so we'll do that". And thusly so, a wide range of music spanning FFI - FFXIV was included in the game. Indeed, Square also owns the majority of the music within FFXIV. Not the intro title music that they commissioned from Uematsu, but all of the music created by the sound team under Square.

To add to that FFXV music playlist thing... they notably are missing certain popular songs like FFVIII's "Eyes on Me" because they do not have full rights to Faye Wong's vocals. But using "Waltz to the Moon" which has the same melody is no problem because there is no copyright issue for someone's vocal performance. Any piece of music that was not completely developed in house by Square Enix employees has issues on copyright.

It also explains how, while Nobuo Uematsu originally wrote the Final Fantasy Prolouge and Chocobo theme, that they can constantly update and change it about for all of their subsequent games, because Square Enix owns those rights and any square Enix employee has free reign over making new arrangements of these older pieces.

For me, third party doesn't mean "not FFXIV" but "not Square Enix". So, I think any Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, etc...songs would be fair game.

From what I understand and have read, SE has already filed copyright complaints against some uploaded videos of other Final Fantasy franschise songs, and had them blocked and/or removed. So, I think that says they don’t sanction playing any other Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or Kingdom Hearts songs.
