Yeah, similar things in similar places is something I do to, such as that shield throw, and that ranged magic attack on DRK are both on #6, Flash and Unleash are both on #5, etc.

I'll have to plug my 360 controller in and give it a whirl then. Obviously not an Expert Dungeon right away haha.

This would be awesome if it actually felt nice and comfortable... and in some ways might even be better than fumbling around trying to click and keybind at the same time lol.

Never even thought about trying the controller... thanks for reminding me that even exists. *grins*

    You're welcome xD

I am not sure about 360 controller, but I honestly love PS3/4 controllers for this game and I honestly don't know where I'd be without them. They are comfortable and makes it easy to relax and play in my opinion.

+1 to controller. I'm healing on SCH with xbox one controller and it's really nice. I have 47 skills there (including mount and pet commands) that I use regularly and all of them are equally easily accessible - unlike on keyboard, where you have better and worse keys.
The only thing that is a problem, is targetting allies outside of your party. I learned fluid changing between friends and enemies target filter and always have /tt macro ready to target tank in FATEs. It's also a bit clunky to use alliance raid frames, but you don't need them that often.

That, and I really need to re-bind the keys... especially now that I've been playing WoW again (just came back from a hiatus there too). WoW uses Shift+ while FFXIV uses Ctrl+ for the 2nd hotbar. I think if I re-bind the 2nd hotbar as shift+ I will probably do better and I plan on doing that. Just hadn't gotten around to it yet.
You can also use a mouse like this if you want more buttons: https://www.logitechg.com/en-ca/prod...o-gaming-mouse

Out of the box you can hit every button on Hotbars 1 & 2 just from the mouse, with your thumb and one finger. If you tweak it, you could get two more on there pretty easily. I also bound Sprint to a dedicated button because I hit that constantly. That's what I use because I can't reliably hit those right side buttons either.

There's a bit of a readjustment to get used to where all the buttons are, but it's probably less than a controller. I do find it a lot better if I want to use a keyboard (which I do), because I still have a hand on the keyboard which isn't the case with a controller.

I have a mouse very similar to that. When I said earlier I spent $200 on stuff to try and learn mouse movement, one of those things was a Razer Naga which looks almost exactly the same as the mouse you just linked.

But, being an older guy, the buttons are far too small for my decently-sized thumb and I end up hitting 2 buttons at once rather often and it's difficult to curl my thumb enough to hit the bottom-most row of buttons. It's just awkward.

It seems they make most mice nowadays for 12 year olds and young adult women or something lol.

I had similar issues when I started with mine but every time I thought my hands were just not a fit for it I reminded myself that some people play the guitar with their feet and some others do card sleight of hand with two stumps for hands. Suddenly my fingers feel pretty darn nimble.
You eventually get used to it. Your mileage may however vary. It took me a couple of weeks to get better at not fat fingering everything. And a couple more weeks to get it down properly. I hit the hard to reach buttons without any discomfort anymore as well. Practice makes perfect.

PS: I had to drop dpsing a fair amount while I was getting used to the mouse because I would just end up hitting all the wrong stuff from utter confusion as soon as something went slightly lopsided lol.

Here is my WHM cross hot bar for an example.

This is the Healing/Buff bar, so I use this during heavily healing and when I need all of those abilities.

This is the mirrored bar with DPS spells replacing certain abilities for when I can weave in DPS etc, but it also has Heals on it incase I need to quickly heal before swapping back to the Healing/Buff bar. Fluid Aura really doesn't need to be there anymore, but I just never bothered removing it, it's somewhat helpful in dungeons if tanks leave mobs beating on my face D:

This is my cross hot bar #8 which is used for the expanded double hold options. It is a mirror on each side because the options are holding R2 then L2 at same time or using L2 first then holding R2 so it can expand up to 16 extra buttons, but I find it is too hard for me to remember where things were personally when I tried to use all 16 and I am fine with the extra 8 only instead of 16.

Here is the setting in config so it might kind of help explain what I mean. As you can see there is another expanded option as well but I don't use it personally.

And here is what the double hold R2+L2 looks like when you hold it to choose what you want to use.

As for the extra hotbar in the bottom right those abilities are the ones on the double hold so I can see their cooldown timers and the other stuff is just stuff I don't use much so I might click it instead of trying to have space on my bar for it.

AST is a bit more complicated because they have more buttons, but WHM doesn't suffer from too much ability bloat so I manage quite well.

@Miste: Ahh, I see. Looks fairly reasonable. Similar abilities grouped together and what-not. Definitely will have to give that a try and see what it feels like when I get some actual time off work lol.

So I tried it a bit, and it has serious potential, though my biggest problem is trying to switch between enemies and group members.

I know *how* to, and I get the concept of hard target vs soft target, the problem is... most tanks will just go YOLO! and run off and grab a huge pack of mobs; no sooner do I hard-target an enemy till the tank needs healed... again.

Or if I hard-target the tank, I have to soft-target every single time I want to cast an offensive spell, which means I get 1 or 2 spells off during the whole fight because I'm finding it hard to get any time to target.

I wish the game would let you specify two hard-targets -- one enemy and one ally and hotbar buttons should be intelligent enough to know if their recipient is an enemy or an ally. I can't think of any spells that you could cast on either, it's always one or the other. That would make things so much easier with this.
