    A Video I promised someone.....

Daily Post Limits are just entirely stupid. (will edit the actual post in, in a sec)

    In this thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...hi-P.../page16

I promised someone I would upload a video to help them out.

I know I will probably get reamed for being a "bad" player, and yes... I wasn't playing all that well, due to a combination of lag, unfamiliarity with the dungeon (this was my 2nd run ever), being rusty (I took a month and a half hiatus recently as you can see from me being in the NN), and nervous about being recorded.

But anyways, nobody died in the whole thing.

    Here's the videos:

Twitch Version: Temporary, but better quality! : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/202485102##
Youtube Version: (Which sucks far worse, dunno why YT murders video quality so bad): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PDiGX2D0OE

This is mainly to help a (hopefully) former "Healer-Only" get some ideas as to how to weave DPS into their healing.

Now if someone would be kind enough to post over on that other thread to let Missbone know that I was unable to post the video over there, that would be great.

    Thanks!

I wonder if this could become a sort of megathread for videos detailing information on some of the basics. wonder if I could try and brush off my tanking skills and also do a tank one as well as healer. I think you're on to something here.

EDIT: I saw this is in the Healer roles thread. nvm. I'll keep it to the healer stuff. :P
EDIT2: As someone who has 5 years experience of radio presenting under their belt (as well as a few years streaming experience), this won't phase me. Who knows, maybe it could start some guides going?

At first thx for video, i will watch it after i ate something. As for the quality i only can imgaine 2 main reasons (i have done this myself in the past), first the video itself whas recorded in a low resolution or second you recorded it in Full hd but converted it later to lower resolution by yourself or it whas done by the website when u uploaded it to twitch. I usualy record my stuff in Full HD with Open Broadcast and use youtube for my uploads and it never converted my videos into a lower resolution, only think i remember is that your videos should be in mp4 format when u upload them to avoid unnecessary problems.

If someone is unfamilar with a certain dungeon it's ok to play safe.
As you said: no one died and you did damage between healing and that was what you wanted to show

It's really fine. I would play more aggressive, but Skalla comes up every day I participate at Expert Roulette since a whole week so I know the dungeon.

You keep your flowers for a very long time. If you cast divine bension more frequently would result in less healing

FINALLY! I can FINALLY respond... apparently they have the Daily Post Limit reset at 4PM EST for some weird reason... which makes no sense whatsoever.

    Yeeeeesh.

Okay, @Sebazy... sure, you can give advice. That was half of the reason of me posting the videos, though I would ask you (and anybody else posting advice) to remember a few things:

1). Keyboard turning. Please don't tell me to go Mouse. I can't. I've tried. Many times.
2). I was not performing at my best, due to a combination of being rusty, being unfamiliar with the dungeon, and having some mild lag.
3). Video quality is rather bad because A). 500kb/sec is best I can do, B). Youtube made the video worse, not sure why.

As long as you remember those two points, I'm fine with any feedback you give!

@Sieben79: Now that you mention it, YES! I now remember the technique I WAS using. lol. Again, month and a half hiatus and this video is only my 2nd dungeon run since my return (notice the Novice Network chat channel being active). What I WAS doing, now that you mention it, was throwing Benison on the tank before each pull. I forgot all about that. Thanks!

Hope you don't mind if I point some thing out then:

    - You often run with full lilies and don't use Divine Benison. It's ogcd so you can use it pretty much every time it's up. Or at least pop it before pull so you can apply dots in peace.
    - Crazy overheal. You often heal too fast. You lose GCD every time dps gets hit for 10% of their hp to top them. If there is no unavoidable damage (for example trash pulls), you don't need to heal them at all. If they keep getting hit, wait for them to fall lower - with their hp your cure II will nearly always max them.
    - Swiftcast first holy. It allows you to "cut" into mobs damage so they don't hit tank too much while you cast. That lets you follow with 2nd and 3rd holy while enemies are stunned all the time.
    - Don't click on skills. I know, we have 2,5s GCD. But on WHM you have so little skills there is no reason to don't have them all on keyboard. It's faster (more muscle memory reliant) and safer (mouse ready to change target at any time for ogcd heal). People might disagree with me here, but being MMO player for over 13 years, it just hurts my eyes :P

Here is a few pieces of advice based on what I've seen of the video:

    - You were playing very VERY safe. I understand being rusty/not being used to the content, but you should get used to trusting your Regen/Medica II ticks.

    - Personal opinion, but I don't even have Cure I on my bar because I find it's not worth the GCD, for two reasons:
1 - You should never be needing to heal a tank (or anyone for that matter) with Cure I, because the amount of damage it heals while being on the same cast time as Cure II is a very low percentage of their HP pool
2 - Mana is very rarely an issue on WHM

    - Make sure to keep your DOTs up at all possible times. Both Aero III and Aero II are individually stronger than Stone IV, so they should take priority.

    - Healers are also casters, so minimizing unnecessary movement is important if you want to play optimally. I noticed you move a lot when you don't really need to.

    - Still on the subject above, learn to abuse your instant spells even if you're clipping while you're moving - this is to improve your active time during an encounter. For example: refresh Aero II or the tank's Regen before moving - this frees up about 2.5s for you to move while you are still keeping your globals rolling. Always remember that casting something is better than casting nothing.

    - Holy is mitigation! A combo like Largesse Regen + Asylum into Aero III > Swift Holy + Presence of Mind > Holy + Thin Air into Holy spam is absolutely devastating on trash mobs AND will keep your tank up for a fairly long time.

    - As it has been mentioned before abuse Benison as much as you can. When I need to top the tank off/shift back to healing I usually do Cure II into Regen + Benison, then Cure II until the tank has enough of an HP threshold to survive the rest of the mob pack.

    - I personally use Benediction not as an "oh crap" button, but as an "offensive" cooldown to open more windows for DPS. You can let your tank fall pretty low (not TOO low though, Bene delay still kills people!) before using it. Saving it for an emergency ends up being inneficient as it's an incredibly powerful healing CD that goes unused a lot of the time.

Keep in mind the above advice is strictly directed towards optimal play. I still think you did alright in the video and you accomplished your purpose.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Some of it was stuff that I had already suspected/knew and I did mention Benison above... having a month and a half hiatus, I simply forgot about the ability altogether, was such a habit of Not using it back in the day, get it, use it a little, take a month and a half hiatus, come back and whoops. Forgot it even exists lol. But yes, did need to do it more hehe.

RE: Overheals: I do realize that sometimes I do throw a bit too much heal, I suppose it is partly nervousness maybe? Or perhaps it's more of an OCD problem, don't like seeing non-full HP meters, kinda feels like I'm not doing my job if people are running around half-dead lol. I was trying to work on that before my hiatus, and will probably work on it more as I start doing more dungeons again.

RE:Swiftcast Holy: I'm... hesitant. I suppose I could try that for Trash pulls, and just save SC for emergencies while fighting bosses, that could work. $5 says first time I try that, somebody's gonna die immediately afterwards lol.

RE:Clicking: Needing to click junk does annoy me, but yet there's enough skills that I find it difficult to put them all where I can get them with the keyboard alone and on the right end of the hotbar, I have this mildly annoying tendency to hit the wrong button (hitting 0 instead of - or some-such) in a pinch situation. When I watched the video again, though I do realize I was clicking things on bar #1, not sure why I was doing that. I don't think I used to do that? Might have just been nervousness or something. Perhaps I just need a few more dungeon runs to get a bit more calmer.

RE:Very Safe: I'm a cautious person by nature, lol. I do agree that sometimes I cautious to a fault, I understand that. You had no idea how much I was squirming near the end of that 2nd boss fight when that one guy dropped to 1500 health, I was like "oh no he's gonna die... gaaah! not while I'm filming!" When the boss died I was like "wow, I dunno how the heck I managed to Not let either of them die" because they kept taking hits.

RE: DoTs: Forgetting buffs/debuffs is something I struggle with, with all jobs not just healing. I don't know why sometimes I just forget about a buff, or debuff... I really like SAM but man do I keep forgetting the two self-buffs... or the debuffs on other DPS jobs... it's something I could definitely improve upon but not sure why I have such trouble keeping track of them. I have short-term memory problems IRL, as I suspect I have sleep apnea, so that could be a part of it.

RE:Movement: Do I unnecessarily move That much? I'll watch the video again... I never realized. That is one of the reasons I click spells sometimes, btw. Forgot to mention that... I can instant-cast spells and move at the same time, as I don't use the mouse for movement so I'm free to click away while I'm moving. That's why sometimes you'll see me running up to the group of mobs while clicking Assize, or running up towards the mobs while throwing a Regen on the tank to move in Holy Range for example.

RE:Benediction: I've been slowly improving on this. Not with Bene, mind you, but other skills. When I first started tanking, I treated Rampart and Convalescence as emergency skills, but over time I've shifted into using them more often, timing it with when I know I'll be taking more damage (early in a trash pull, or when a boss is about to use something that hits hard, etc) rather than waiting until I'm almost dead to drop them lol. It's an old old habit that I need to break; I used to play FFXI and WoW way back during the earlier expansions, where these long cooldown skills were meant to be "oh crap" buttons. The mentality just stuck and it's hard to break away from it. I will likely try to weave Bene into Trash pulls, but on bosses I will likely keep it as an emergency -- I can only throw so much caution to the wind lol.

Overall, thanks for the very civil (and helpful!) suggestions. I was kinda expecting to get reamed for not playing all that well in the video, lol. Rather pleased with the responses I got thusfar!

Honestly you did waaayyy better than what I normally expect from a pug healer in DF.

It is obvious you are trying to do as well as you can and that is all I ask from people. Your DPS might not be super duper high, but that doesn't matter since it is really obvious you were putting in effort and trying to do your best at the time.

Most of the pro healer DPS players simply just want people to try, and not stand around doing nothing for long periods of time for no reason or to not have the healers who purposefully ignore all their DPS abilities on principle even though they could help out and instead they just stand or jump around.

Effort usually always shines through and people appreciate it. You did well.
